Anyone who looks at America in 2025 and thinks, "maybe we can fix this by throwing trans people under the bus"

1) doesn't have the brains to understand what's going on or how we got here

2) doesn't have the stomach for any of the fights ahead

and

3) is vice signaling to their MAGA friends.
The Pod Save America bros are setting up a "debate" about trans rights featuring anti-trans ghoul Matt Yglesias, apparently! No clue who the "pro-trans" side will be repped by, but I'm really worried that they're going to just find someone to get steamrolled.
so there’s gonna potentially be a pod save america “debate” on democrats future support for trans rights in the near future

i had to back out because of scheduling conflicts, and for some reason they didn’t want my help finding a replacement

on the other side of the “debate” is…

I don’t think this is necessarily right, though I haven’t researched the issue. The 4th Amendment provides “that the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated . . . .”

It feels like what the NYTimes means when it says things like this is that *they personally* recoil from things like trans rights & progressive economic policy

We need a different opposition now. It sucks so bad that some Democrats want to support Israel’s war crimes more than they want to stop American fascism.
If TACO Trump is already folding on Iran, the American people need to know about it.

No side deals.

A different world is possible and we need it now. I feel sick.

Feeling genuine joy for Mahmoud Khalil and his family. Everything is shit but it’s great he’s out.

Ah yes, a border-restrictionist progressivism. We’ll call it, um, national socialism….

Slave catchers operating in the free Northern states before the Civil War brought home to Northerners the brutality and arbitrariness of Southern slavery, radicalizing thousands who were generally unfavorable toward slavery into being wide-awake abolitionists.
It is time for state and local governments to arrest masked officers who won’t produce warrants and who have no proof someone is undocumented.

Kidnappers should be arrested and indicted and tried for kidnapping and serve the many years such sentences carry.

Vile.
Acting Columbia president Claire Shipman authorized NYPD to enter Butler Library and arrest around 75 pro-Palestinian protestors who had occupied the main reading room, according to the Columbia Spectator. Two protestors were taken out on stretchers. Two officers were also injured, per Shipman.

It should be very clear to every Senate Democrat that any vote for Cloture will also be considered a vote for the bill.

People aren’t going to be tricked with procedural games.

They know exactly what is going on.

Defend Medicaid.
Vote NO on Cloture.
NO on bill.

This is your periodic reminder that:

"AI" is artificial, but not currently intelligent
"hallucinations" are actually incorrect or misleading output (errors)
"AI" cannot "join the workforce" any more than a broken clock can

When we use their marketing terms we only help them perpetuate the scam.

In this episode of the Daily from before the election, Leonhardt made this same move so dramatically I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/29/p...

This is what happens when one major party makes Mass Deportations central to their presidential campaign, and the other major party essentially doesn't respond.

@kevinmkruse.bsky.social I don’t understand why you’d repost this. Do you agree with this sentiment?
Democrats should spend exactly zero political capital stopping any Trump deportation efforts.

It is madness to spend capital trying to help people who are no longer a major part of your electoral coalition.

It’s not a border crisis, it’s a crisis I of people being driven from their homes by conditions that the U.S. is deeply involved in creating. We could and should build badass popular transborder movements to change these conditions, not capitulate to bullshit right-wing anti-migrant frames.

Joe Biden is a war criminal who should never know peace
The ICC charged Netanyahu and Gallant with criminal responsibility for withholding humanitarian aid and deliberately starving a civilian population.

Meanwhile, Biden & Blinken claimed no such thing was happening. It is unreasonable to single out Netanyahu. Biden & Blinken should be charged as well

Have stopped listening to The Daily & started listening Democracy Now! in the morning & I think I’m much better-served. More earnest straightforward media with kind of low production value please!

the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?

It is really nuts. On climate issues alone, anyone who isn’t actively working to change everything is essentially pro-mass-death and we’re supposed to consider them the adults in the room.
A big part of the problem with the Election Takes is the infantalization of idealism and the adultification of moderation.

The question of who is to blame for Democrats losing begins and ends with the establishment. They panic selected a 78 year old to stop Bernie Sanders in March of 2020, and then chose a Vice Presidential nominee as a favor to Clyburn.

They had zero fucking plan for 2024. It’s 100% their fault.

In general, I think pathetic-ness as a concept probably explains the election results better than anything. It’s cross-cutting. Being pathetic demoralizes the base while also convincing the incoherent center NOT to vote for you.
I’m consistently amazed that the Democrats’ fundraising strategy is being abjectly pathetic
We are the 99 percent!!!

These are polarized times, but we can't cede the idea of "government efficiency" to the cynical right. What would efficiency that really helps people look like?

Public healthcare and college, no means testing. No humiliating red tape for SNAP, FEMA, debt relief. Websites for UI that actually work.

A smart move for progressive politicians to make would be to push hard to drop the sanctions regimes against Venezuela & Cuba. Demand confrontation with the reality that our braindead right-wing-wired foreign policy toward them drive immiseration & migration.
Yes, exactly. Please stop doing this!
Harris could have focused on how U.S. foreign policy pushes immigrants to leave their homes. Instead, she ran on border security.
November 10, 2024 at 7:34 PM
I think this is absolutely critical. The Democrats cannot have a coherent position on immigration if they accept a false, constructed frame built to destroy them. Contest the frame!
