wait you’re telling me that this simple task I’ve been putting off for two weeks, that has tormented me like a two hour task, only took 30 seconds to complete? If only there were a valuable lesson I could learn from this.

Ah well. Nevertheless.

I may have lucked into an interview (sometime next year) for the job I was hoping for. Plus less-solid potential work for between now and early next year. Unexpectedly positive!

This is FAR too real to be dealing with so early in the day

I can hear helicopters above my place and hear a protest go past in the street outside and the sad thing is I'm left wondering if it is pro or anti fascist as both seem to be going on at the moment.

I was so fucking angry when Biden announced that the Covid pandemic was over. It is not over. It is tiresome and politically inconvenient, but it is unfortunately not over.
Big Myth Four: Covid is Over

People mean a variety of things by this, but none of them are right except that the era of public health interventions on Covid appear to be over. Here’s the aggregate wastewater data for the last few years in the US. Notice that big honking peak - LAST YEAR??

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare.

Sometimes I feel like my attempts at certain assessments are absolute dog-water: I obviously couldn't understand the question with confidence, so my only hope is a mercy pass. It goes to show that I don't know what I am talking about because I managed a grade of 95. I keep doing this to myself, lol.

For any trans, NB, agender, or gender diverse folks out there: you're valid, rad, and you deserve better than the way things are right now.

Good thing: I'm greatly enjoying to finally get into the practical stuff like the WAIS.

Meh thing: Assignments are still very draining.

Bad thing: I've gotten basically no deep sleep for the last 4+ years, apparently, thanks to sleep apnea. Explains some things.

It's not that the kid is wrong, it's that he's wrong with utter and serene confidence. When people ask me why I wrote The Death of Expertise, it wasn't ignorance that compelled me to write, it was this kind of unbreakable, completely self-assured ignorance that did it.
Lololol @samseder.bsky.social has to very slowly explain to this dude that government agencies don't pay taxes lolol

I don't want to jinx it, but I might get to go to a very cool cyberpsych conference this year!

Today I received my first expression of interest seeking me to supervise a cyberpsychology PhD. While I am not in a position to say yes, it really was a nice (and well timed) mood boost. I must admit sometimes being postdoc but not employed gives a dream (/nightmare) quality to the last 6.5 years.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.
