This is quite something
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Warrington Way 40 Miler completed yesterday! Started my watch late, hence sub 40 distance. Pretty gruelling for the last ~12 miles; who thought it was a good idea to run that part of the course over about about 20 styles?

40 miles coming riiiight up

The US remains the most popular destination among educated young adults worldwide, but its lead over #2 has narrowed from 20pts to 9pts, while the UK has plummeted from a consistent #2 ranking to #7, again with a steep fall after 2016.

Do something amazing this Xmas. Go to your local independent specialists wine shop. This doesn’t mean a chain btw! Ask the owner of the business to recommend you some wines, and I am pretty sure you’ll get a great deal. Wine doesn’t have to be expensive to be good.

First ultra distance in the bag! It hurt… but not as much as I feared, probably due to 45 minutes of walking in the mix. Excellent organisation as always by See York Run York. #running #runsky #monstermash

Nice run this evening on what’s turned into a cold night. Rest day tomorrow before 36 miles over the weekend (or 42 if I can face it). Then taper! My favourite part of the training block: rest and eat.

15 more miles today, I was less tired than I expected to be. More farm animals to contend with. Made it back in time to head up to the finish line of the Yorkshire marathon and cheer in a friend. Seeing marathoners always makes me (a) emotional, (b) eager to do another #running #trailrunning #runsky

15 miles this morning. And another 15 tomorrow… curious how that’s going to feel. Almost as curious as this calf. #running #runsky

A pair of 12 milers this weekend. An early start yesterday gave me ducks at dawn. On to a pair of 15s next weekend…

Recorded my first ever DNF today. Tough weather conditions and an even tougher course. Definitely the right decision (not mine!) to pull out, but as I look back on it this evening I’m beginning to beat myself up about it… all part of running’s ups and downs I suppose. #running

From yesterday: just shy of 19 miles on trails around Brayton (near Selby, just south of York. Legs were shattered, trails far more gruelling than road… but nothing a roast dinner and apple pie couldn’t put right. #running #trailrunning

18 miles through the trails around Knaresborough today. Lovely setting; hillier than ideal for me so mixed in plenty of walking. Still two+ months till my first 40 miler so plenty of time to improve.

Today I went for a run with a friend I’ve had for 39 years. Crazy to think about that longevity but I’m very proud of it. Anyway… a little loosened prior to doing 18 miles on Sunday #running #runsky

Long and slow today – fields and trails outside York. Not my finest work but the 1,800 calories burned will give me permission to eat everything in sight! About 35 miles for the week 4. 12 to go til the Warrington Way… 40 miles still feels a long, long way off.

Short trail run yesterday - despite it being less than 5 miles from where I grew up and have now visited for many years, I had no idea it was there. Very peaceful - and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a vineyard too.

Kept the pace low and walked the steeper inclines 😳

I always enjoy reading the TripAdvisor London Forum because I'm fascinated to see what foreign tourists expect, what they ask about and what surprises them. I thought this post from someone from Texas was a really lovely and cheering comment about riding the tube late at night
