Not football-related, but Concorde flew its first commercial flight 50 years ago today #OnThisDay 21 Jan 1976

This thing used to stop everyone in their tracks to look up when it flew low over South London on its approach to LHR.

Never flew it myself, but visited this at Brooklands in 2019.

1.FC Union Berlin was formed.

A trip to the Alten Försterei is a lot of fun, if you can get a ticket!

Luckily, Kit Holden wrote a book about them and joined me on the podcast to discuss it.

Re: #AFCON - there are precedents for teams walking off in finals because they don’t like the referee’s decision

In the 1920 Olympic gold medal final, the Czechs walked off after the ref awarded Belgium a penalty.

The match was abandoned, the Czechs disqualified, and the Belgians awarded gold

This is the face of Manuel Cros Grau, legend at CE Europa in Gràcia (Barcelona)

His goals helped Europa win the 1923 Catalan Championship and reach the Copa del Rey final that year.

He turned down a big money move to Barça, thus cementing his status with the fans.
