At the height of George W Bush’s crusade against queer people 20 years ago, I don’t recall any openly LGBT Dems capitulating on the issue like this. How have we regressed so far even among our own ranks? @ericsorensen.bsky.social why did you vote to honor someone who said we should be killed?
Republicans just pushed a resolution to "honor the life and legacy" of anti-LGBTQ+ rights leader and extremist Charlie Kirk.

Half of the Democrats voted in favor, including transgender representative Sarah McBride.

Todd Gloria is so unserious about active transportation
Update: San Diego Mayor Staff is working to obtain a permit from Caltrans to remove dedicated bus lanes from part of Park Blvd. Says congestion at freeway on-ramp is motivation.

*Prius parked in bike lane as I pass*

Driver, giggling: "omg I'm so sorry 🤪"

Me: "you're not sorry"

Driver: "ok BUDDY you have a nice day too" and more incoherent yelling as they drive by me

I need a new response that voices my displeasure without causing driver road rage 🥲

San Diego’s Blue Line trolley has ridership numbers that most light rail systems can only dream of. But the Clairemont Drive Station attracts the fewest passengers by far. Why?

Because freeway, and because zoning.

MTS ridership data reveal high cost of banning apartments near trolley stations
The Clairemont Drive Station attracts fewer passengers than any other station on the Blue Line trolley. Experts blame the city's restrictive zoning.

"The average age of a homeowner in the San Diego metropolitan area is 54 years old, according to a study from mortgage website LendingTree. The only metro area with older homeowners was Los Angeles at 55 years old."

Prop 13 and underbuilding of housing for decades have been major policy disasters.
San Diego’s homeowners are among nation’s oldest
It is rare in San Diego for younger residents to own homes.

Ahead of a funding vote on project to widen SR-37, Caltrans pulled a report from their website that made it clear that the road would be underwater by 2040.

Caltrans Admitted the Highway 37 Widening Would be Underwater. Why Bother Deleting the Internet Presentation That Admits It? - Streetsblog California
Was the report "too woke?" Or is that just the reason Trump uses when the government deletes its own reports with inconvenient truths?

Today I am yet again reminded of the urgent need to make it easier to build homes in California so that vulnerable people can actually afford to live in a state that protects them. What good are our vaunted protections if they come with an exorbitant price tag?

Urbanist reformers need allies – esp those who like cars (which is a lot of the USA!).

Car guys like Farah could broaden coalitions for change.

Farah: “No one likes traffic, but urbanists and car enthusiasts hate traffic even more than regular people.”

When these cliffs erode and trains slow down, it cuts off San Diego's only rail connection to the rest of the nation.
