Shouldn't that location have been subject to California's daylighting law? Was a vehicle parked on the approach side of the alley at the time of the collision?

While this is supposed to be satire, ICE would absolutely do that if they haven't done it already.

Other than doing most/all of the things done by the Gestapo, ICE is completely different.

Car traffic through the middle of the park appeared to be less on both days, something I consider one of the bigger potential benefits of the paid parking. The large lot between Air and Space and Park Blvd was noticeably emptier than for typical weekends before paid parking was implemented.

Two Saturdays ago, the zoo lot appeared to have about one-third to one-half of parking spaces empty during the early afternoon with the lot full this past Sunday during the same hours. The difference may have been due to more zoo members setting up unpaid parking by this past Sunday.

Two weekends ago I was in Balboa Park on Saturday from before 2 PM to after 5 PM and on Sunday of this past weekend during similar hours. On both days during the early afternoon, parking at the lots closer to the center of the park (the most expensive parking) was full.

New rule. You can't seize a place unless you can find it on an unlabeled map.

All of the new housing being built in the more central neighborhoods of San Diego seems to be almost entirely positive beyond the disruptions during the building of the new housing.
Wow - new market-rate apartment buildings in San Francisco created big gains for tenants in nearby existing apartments. Lowered their rent, prevented evictions, and reduced displacement. New affordable housing didn't have any of these local benefits!

Meanwhile in San Diego, bike lanes and bus stops are considered perfectly acceptable places to park a car without consequence.
Santa Monica Parking Enforcement Vehicles to Use AI Cameras to Ticket Bike Lane Violations - Streetsblog California
Similar to on-bus AI cameras for bus lanes, but with two new wrinkles: cameras will be on city cars, and will detect bike lane blockers

I'm not ashamed. I'm seething mad. i didn't put these goons in power. Nothing bad enough can happen to them. Sooner is better.

"Seizures reduce the likelihood of repeated unsafe operation while the criminal case is pending, police said. They provide a practical enforcement tool that encourages safer riding behavior without imposing a financial hardship on families."

But cars driven recklessly get a pass because reasons.

From the story in the U-T this morning: "Police said the driver stopped after knocking the boy from his bike, then ran him over before leaving the scene."

"Police said the driver stopped after knocking the boy from his bike, then ran him over before leaving the scene."

That's completely outrageous! Will the woman that murdered with 6-year-old boy be charged with first-degree murder?

Death by design. #VisionZero has never been a priority for #SanDiego, similar to its Climate (in)Action Plan.
This is the same road ⬇️
They were riding on the sidewalk because there are no safe bike facilities in the street. Being forced to ride on the sidewalk exposes bicyclists to greater risk of being hit by a turning car, which is exactly what happened. Absolutely disgusting that the driver fled.

But it's supposedly the new signs for parking that's the biggest blight in Balboa Park(ing lot).
Map of green space in Balboa Park sacrificed to cars, including parking, freeways and roads shown in yellow. Does not include the significant amount of the remaining park space devoted to buildings, golf course or landfill.

Just another murder by car in San Diego. The woman just drove off leaving the child to die. A city that prioritizes cars over people is selfish and evil.
UPDATE: 6-year-old dies in Pacific Beach hit-and-run, suspected driver in custody
A 6-year-old boy was struck and killed by a 32-year-old woman driving a car in Pacific Beach, and the driver was taken into custody after the vehicle was located in National City.

"The beautiful landscape is blighted with oversized parking signs." "The dog park is now as empty as all the bike lanes."

The bike lanes are used when they aren't blocked with cars and the blight of cars and surface parking lots haven't gone away.

Anyone praising Prop 13 today is dead to me. Today's housing and homeless crisis is a direct result of Prop 13.
My girlfriends parents praised prop 13 at dinner and I didn’t say anything. I’m basically a Bodhisattva.

I pay the same for bus as for rail, and the bus ride quality is much worse because the San Diego streets used by the busiest bus routes are sh!t. In general with transportation, if they get you to your destination substitutions are allowed.
Rail replacement bus journeys should be discounted, absolute piss take that they're full price (and IME you can never even get advance fares for them)

Helmets should be required for people inside cars also.
