San Diego refuses to do automated enforcement for anything - red light violations, speeding, or blocking of bus lanes and bus stops. Is that more of an apparent third rail than charging for parking? Why?
Genuine question I was thinking about yesterday as I watched someone run a red light 2-3 seconds after the walk signal turned on - if there are cameras on every stop light in San Diego, and the city of San Diego is broke, and people are getting mowed down by cars, why not ticket red light runners?

I see those things every day. Today it was a broken flex post between the trolley tracks at the north entrance to the City College Transit Center. Did someone going east on C Street try to veer right following the tracks through the transit center?
When you move around primarily or exclusively by car, you may not see the evidence of car crashes around you:

bent sign posts
broken car pieces
broken windshield glass
tire marks, etc.

For those who travel by 🚶🏻, 🚲, 🦽 & 🚌 these reminders are everywhere on sidewalks & streets.

That street had a 25 mph speed limit and only two lanes, one in each direction. It was well-designed for safety. We often limit speeds of scooters and e-bikes, supposedly for reasons of safety. But far more lethal cars continue to get a pass.

Don’t be the guy that runs up to a departing late 215, then takes 2 minutes to pay. If not for running down the walkway and stairs to the ECB centerline stop and the driver of a few minute late 235 noticing me, I would have had to wait 30 min for the next bus and been late for work.

If you you walk, bike, or take transit, you also know that people driving cars could kill you at any time. It’s the cars.
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

The anger I feel every time I have to cross an onramp to get to a transit stop and have to dodge yet another entitled person driving a car running a red light to make the turn onto the onramp.
It seems bad that only $668 million of California's $31 billion transportation budget is for public transit capital projects next year.

HSR gets another $798 million.

$1.45 billion out of $31 billion. It's a hidden form of climate arson.

Bikes ≠ automobiles

❌Weigh 2-3 tons
❌Encased in a steel box
❌Kill thousands of people every year

Bikes shouldn’t be treated as vehicles and shouldn’t be required to follow the same laws.

Idaho stops are a perfect example. The increase safety when preformed correctly and make cycling safer!

A pedestrian crossing that wouldn’t be needed except for a highway that shouldn’t even exist. The only cost should be for the removal of that section of highway.
Caltrans' messaging of its bike/ped work continues to border on mendacious.

This *Caltrans* press release says that they are spending $97M on a pedestrian overcrossing in SF.

That would be an insane price!

But in reality, the $97M is for a ped over-xing *and* 7.5 miles of I-280 pavement rehab!

The person driving the westbound murder weapon on University presumably didn't have to slow down much to head north on 54th thanks to the wide slip lane. If San Diego was really serious about trying to achieve #VisionZero, why hasn't every slip lane on city streets been removed over the past decade?

University Avenue between 54th and 58th is really hostile for people walking. The posted speed limit is 40 mph, but it's designed for highway speeds. And there are no marked, much less signaled, crossings between 54th and 58th. #VisionZero is a farce in #SanDiego.

MTS seems committed to running no more than the existing service, at most, for much of the rest of the decade. San Diego needs more housing and needs to fund the necessary transit for that to happen.
When nearby transit is years off, how much housing should San Diego allow? Here’s what a judge just said.
The key issue in the lawsuit — which could affect housing developments citywide — is whether future transit routes should help projects qualify for density bonuses.
