Republicans vote overwhelmingly to pretend they want the Epstein Files released. www.axios.com/2025/11/18/h...
House votes to force DOJ release of Jeffrey Epstein files
While the vote marks an important step in backers' crusade to get the files released, significant barriers remain.

jesus, I REMEMBER this discourse, this show’s era, maybe even this TWEET, and thinking as a baby journalist — YEAH! this depiction of young women reporters sucks! this stereotype is harmful!

Locally OWNED you mean
"The B2 bomber. Stealth. They never saw them" -- Trump is now ranting about military strikes on Iran during his speech to McDonald's franchise owners

“I’m not owned. I’m not owned.”
Trump on if he'll sign an Epstein files release bill: "We have nothing to do with Epstein. The Democrats do. All of his friends were Democrats. You look at this Reid Hoffman, Larry Summers, Clinton... all I want is I want for people to recognize the great job I've done on pricing, on affordability."

Reactionaries of the 2080s:

Our forebearers drowned in irony. They lived, if you can call it that, amongst memes instead of mentors. Why, when I was a young one, my grandparents showed me a tweet that, quite literally, predicted this speech, in its entirety, as a joke. They would say “as a treat.”

I’ll talk, in person, in a way that never quite completes a thought. I’ll get about 3/4 in then jump forward. Very frustrating for those around me. Writing, though, and editing, allows me to sculpt instead of shoot.

I adore writers who can do a lot with a little. I know they started with a lot.

In the current moment, the President is insane. The U.S. President remains one of the most powerful individuals on the planet. Yet, even while this President is nuts, the whole still functions.

I do NOT want to minimize the suffering he’s caused. Only to point out, he’s still one cog in a system.
Trump on healthcare: "I've had personal talks with some Democrats about paying large amounts of dollars back to the people. This was my idea ... why don't we just pay this money directly to the people of our country and let them buy their own health insurance?"

Trump's policies are inflicting so much harm even his allies can see it. Yet he's mostly doing exactly what he promised to. If they revolt over policy, they'll reveal they were fools to back him in the first place. They need a *moral* reason to abandon him. The Epstein files provide just that.

And start ending it with “for them”
Just a thought, but what if we stop asking “how much worse can it get?”

Civ 7: RECEIVED A GREAT WORK
It is very funny that this Pope is just going to get jerseys from now on. Everyone decided that's what this Pope likes and that is it. It's like if your grandmother got you a puzzle for Christmas one year and you said you liked it so your entire extended family is like "oh that's the puzzle kid"
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

I love that the huge list of policies that Ratigan rolls out at the end of The Great Mouse Detective, when he thinks he’s become King, is basically Project 2025.

An idea from the deep antiquity of the 90s: having values and sticking to them.

This is perhaps the only way I am a small c conservative: I think there are ways people ought to act, in line with their values, with honor and fairness, even in the face of overwhelming cultural forces to the contrary.
For folks who remember the concept of "selling out", I wrote this a few years ago so you can explain it to younger people who are not familiar with what the idea meant within culture. www.anildash.com/2023/04/18/w... It's hard to explain why someone would not license their song for a commercial.

Completed a whole game of Civ 7, on an easier difficulty to learn the systems. It seems like an evolution of Civ 6’s last update with worse UI, a lot of really interesting swings, but no one home run, and the systems ultimately weigh each other down. 🧵

The rational thing to do is to prevent MAGA supporters from being allowed onto school property at public schools across the country. I think any organized child predation ring would not be tolerated.
