Maurice Glasman has made me agree wholeheartedly with George Monbiot. I'm still adjusting to this state of affairs.
After clashing with Maurice Glasman recently, I've come to realise just how pernicious he and his Blue Labour movement are. We could discuss his chumminess with Steve Bannon and JD Vance, endless pandering to the far right and evident hatred of the Labour left. But there's something even worse. 🧵

It didn't work out for me in the race to be deputy leader, but given events today, am sharing this again.

We in Labour are uniquely placed to bring our diverse country together against the forces of hate. When we stand up for each other, we all win.

'We win when we fight together – that's the story Labour needs to tell' - LabourList
We can never give in to the forces that would divide us and send us backwards.  The answer is the Labour winning over a broad coalition for our future.

This!! Yesterday, Liverpool was heaving with people doing fun things… going the match, shopping, having a drink. Most people don’t spend their time attacking police officers or putting up flags on lampposts.
Right now, this is an extreme minority magnified by a social media that sends extremes viral. If nobody has the courage to say that’s what it is - & that normal people, even if worried about immigration, spend their Saturdays in Tesco or taking the kids to football - it won’t stay extreme for long.

"Is Britain about to blow?" asks Matt Goodwin promoted a two hour special event on the subject.

Their greasy desperation for violence and carnage, so they can profit off it, is so disgusting.

Surprised to find out this wasn't still the case and then I realised it's 13 years since I left university 😰
I have a simple solution to this. Grade students entirely by means of three hour hand-written exams in a big hall with no computers. If they all fail because they never learned to write without AI, sucks to be them
“Massive numbers of students are going to emerge from university with degrees, and into the workforce, who are essentially illiterate…Both in the literal sense and in the sense of being historically illiterate and having no knowledge of their own culture, much less anyone else’s.”

story of British politics for the past decade is people getting what they want and then fucking *hating* it
Irony is the Conservative Party ought to be joining Steve Baker, Dan Hannan in a victory lap. Conventional wisdom in 2016 was that an FTA with India and accession to CPTPP were pipe-dreams. They won!

Saw one with a crab hanging out its mouth once and crashed my bike as a result.

I’ve also seen a couple attacking live pigeons… that might just be the Liverpool XL Gullies though.

Have written about JD Vance’s Munich speech. In what may prove to be the biggest week for European security since 1991, it’s time Europe listened to what Trump and his Vice President are telling us. open.substack.com/pub/goodalla...
We need to listen to what Trump and Vance are telling us.
This may have been the biggest moment for European security since 1991.
