116 legal and policy experts have now opposed Labor’s new powers for police to recommend cutting payments from people without them even having been convicted of a crime.

Cops shouldn’t be anywhere near welfare law and Labor should withdraw this amendment. www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/treat...

Today I learned that LA was originally called El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula. (Which translates to: The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels of the Porciúncula River)
Why did they shorten it?

I’m yet again struck by how small the amounts of money (in corporate or government budget terms, not for individuals) needed to influence politics are.

Gill‘s MEP salary was around €100k net plus very extensive expenses, and it still only took €5k a pop to betray his continent, country and voters.
Delicious justice for Nathan Gill, served ice cold.

Pretty sure this was not his only crime, but still good to see him go down for a good stretch.
The first of the "Bad Boys of Brexit" to serve time, but hopefully not the last.

Why am I not even shocked:
WhatsApp messages have revealed how Nathan Gill, a prominent MEP for Nigel Farage's Brexit Party took bribes as part of a pro-Russian influence campaign in the European Parliament.

The process by which the asbestos in play sand was discovered and then reported to the authorities doesn't inspire confidence that a similar incident wouldn't go undetected.
www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...
Asbestos sand contamination was a fluke discovery in an Australian lab
An Australian lab discovered asbestos in children's play sand by chance and regulators only found out about it because of a podcast interview, the ABC can reveal.

She's come a long way from the young teen singing on TV.
OTOH, she also sang at Rupert Murdoch's wedding, so maybe it's a return to her roots.
Just realised this is referring to a church in North Carolina and not the Welsh singer

Do they extend this same benefit of the doubt / scope for interpretation to stuff that Democrats say?
Democrat veterans: "Our laws are clear, you can refuse illegal orders."
Trump: “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”
Republicans: What? No…Trump doesn't want to execute members of Congress, he was “defining the crime of sedition” 🫠 buff.ly/4U7HNRB

'Mr Ryan said Gareth, Stacey and Nathaniel each had an "undiagnosed and untreated psychotic illness".'
Woah — Queensland state coroner Terry Ryan does not accept that the Wieambilla shooters committed a terrorist act as defined in the criminal code.

Instead, he found they were psychotic and that their illness was complemented by their conspiracy theory & premillienialist beliefs

1. This is going to turn into absolute chaos.
2. Why are they doing it before the ban starts?
3. Why can't they just lock / make private the accounts rather than deleting them?

Non British are no longer allowed to enjoy themselves in the Daily Mail worldview...
A reminder that the Daily Express' last editor but one, apologised for its "anti-immigrant" coverage which he said had meant "I just couldn't sleep" at night.

No such sleepless nights for his successor then

193. The "War" on Judges
Deputy Attorney General Blanche's attack on lower courts is an impressive combination of light on substance; shamelessly hypocritical; and profoundly dangerous. More people should be condemning it.

The reason we have laws* against bribery is that companies will absolutely bribe politicians at the very first opportunity if it is good for the bottom line, because they see it as a sound business decision, not a civilizational betrayal.
