‘Games cannot solve the climate crisis. They are not replacements for activism, legislation change, or systemic reform. Their power lies elsewhere: in how they shape perception, emotion, and motivation.’

It’s great to see All Will Rise featured in this article!

When it comes to climate change, "games can empower the belief that people can make a difference," says Volha Kapitonava of Positive Impact Games. "The key ingredient that makes this possible, in my opinion, is joy."

Climate doom is overwhelming a generation of players. But a new wave of games is building the belief that change is possible

Impunity is an enabler of criminality. And again, I suggest that we spend some time reflecting on the radicalising effect it must have on British politicians to be so deeply and directly complicit in such monstrous, racist crimes. These people have crossed a threshold into a truly dark place.

This reflects the way a lot of monolingual Anglophones think about bilingualism, however. They can imagine speaking one language fluently and knowing a bit of some others, but cannot really understand that many of us are actually *fluent* or indeed are *native speakers* of more than one language.
This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

Caption changes the meaning entirely
"Don't speak fluent English"

Have just been blocked by a "Fukuyama was right!" poster and I have to say that nothing exposes the thin skins of liberals more than critique of "The End of History".
Imagine being a Foreign Policy reader in 2025 who likely got a decent liberal arts education and thinking the extent of available theories about how the world works are Fukuyama or Huntington

FernGully might genuinely be the most impactful film I watched as a kid.

I was enthralled by it, still have it seared in my memory almost 4 decades later. How many of my life choices (literally went into rainforest conservation!) are down to watching that movie at the right moment?

There is a direct correlation between how fake your job is and how much value you see in AI
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

This is exactly what the recent Trump-BBC 'scandal' was designed to achieve. The BBC is now self-censoring criticisms of Trump in the name of "impartiality"
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Look folks, it's really, really simple.

Either we find our way to ecosocialism, or we're going to be ruled like serfs under a hereditary plutocracy gorging itself on everything good that's still up for grabs as the overheated, over-polluted world dies under our feet.
Important - in a global order in which international rules are losing importance, one part of the emerging replacement is this neo-royalist approach involving interlinked states and companies. Once again, put away the deglobalisation simplisms.
1/This week has seen a blitz of what looks like corruption sandals: Saudi development deals for US military tech, Pakistani payments to Trump insiders for tariff relief, Swiss gold bars for a trade deal. Far from a payoff, this is a reordering of internat'l system.

the fascists will use that on the rest of us when they take over
states should accept people fleeing death & persecution, that's bedrock to the global order & our obligations to others

we should all happily participate in that

instead, we have to undermine it in every way we can because dipshits who've been wrong about everything think that's the smart play
