The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

Two things here are true. 1) Trump is MAGA and the movement will back whatever he wants. 2) the pivot to confront China by Trump was, is, and always will be a sham. He has strengthened China and weakened US allies.

I know this is an obvious and old point, but it still shocks me how quickly the culture of the GOP has come to defined by the absurd personality type of the "toad-licking, ass kissing alpha." Amazing that they've built an audience that finds such deportment appealing, rather than disqualifying.

I think the even more fundamental issue is that estimates relative to a counterfactual are very hard to explain to voters. It's hard to dispel "the economy grew by 15% over nine years, so it can't have been that bad" by "it would likely have grown by 21 -23%".
