When I was a teacher I had sex with my vulnerable student but there was no “force, coercion or predatory intent”.

These men are voluntarily outing themselves as rapists just to buy Trump a bit more time?

This is why we push back on “not all men”.

This is why we choose the bear.

I had honestly never heard of or encountered this practice until I entered the US academic workforce

It’s very very gross and inappropriate and unprofessional
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

i am not interested in assaulting teenagers
for the record, i don’t believe that all men want is to assault teenagers without suffering consequences for it. i do however believe that if you’re a man who does NOT want that, this would be a GREAT time to get VERY FUCKING LOUD about it

It is a bit black pilling.

Honestly between that and the way women are barely seen as people or equals even by seemingly decent men is really bleak. Between these two things, I'm really having a hard time trusting men in general.
every time some prominent man is like ‘but all men want to fuck 17 year olds! every last one!’ i feel just fucking empty man. because there’s no way to confirm it isn’t true is there? i can’t prove that all of civilization isn’t just an elaborate cover for men’s supposed desperation to fuck children

WE HAVE BEAUTIFUL EYES!!!

Stop letting these (mostly white & white-adjacent) folks convince you to fuck your shit up for a more ✌🏾exotic✌🏾 look.

Don't let *their* fetishization ruin *your* beauty!

We learn languages in community. That's why your app isn't teaching you how to speak a foreign language, because you're not using the language in community. That's why you can't use AAVE without sounding foolish to Black people, because we learn it in a community context & we learn the rules it has.

evil, cruel, hateful, humanity-devoid whites who intend to keep all of the “power” & privilege that their ancestors generated at the residential schools know that they can rely upon deeply unserious non-white people who will trample anyone for a momentary proximity to privilege.

I live in a Canadian city in Ontario that regularly spends $100,000+ so that they can do things like wrap up police cars in “religious symbols” like a Muslim praying, or a cop car wrap for Truth & Reconciliation day.

These whites dont give a fuck and there's plenty non-whites who play along.
because its performative nonsense that accomplishes nothing and lets settlers feel like they've done something meaningful
I wasn't familiar with this term. I just looked it up, and how could anyone who's even remotely progressive have an issue with this?

very weird to see a bunch of non-natives implying you're a fake progressive or something if you dont support land acknowledgements when the most positive sentiment I usually hear about them from other natives is a sort of ambivalence at best

I make land acknowledgements sometimes at the virtual BIPOC Buddhist Sanghas that I attend. While it feels important to acknowledge the past honestly & truthfully, the land acknowledgements feel weird sometimes. Not in a “I hate Indigenous peoples” way but in a performative humanity way.

Alice is the one who taught me the power, joys, nuances and challenges of online disability communities--at a time when my own disability was making me more housebound.

I remain forever grateful to her, for showing me what could be possible, but also what remains to be done.
Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?
