An absolutely unmissable read for anyone who cares about British politics.
This is one of the most brilliant (and beautifully written) analyses of the dissolution and future of the UK's party system you will ever read. @prospectmagazine.co.uk is free to read at the moment, so I'd urge any of you with an interest in British politics to get hold of it as soon as you can.

He’s detaining & disappearing people without due process. And now he’s arresting journalists. He’s a fascist. Call him that. Don’t be afraid.

It's six years today since Britain left the EU.

I wrote this on Brexit day in 2020, about the strategic dilemmas to which European membership had once been the answer and that would now reopen once Britain left.

I'd stand by most of it today.

Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

Is it

A) to get them to leave? Why?
B) to save money? Then why not just restrict benefits?
C) to "encourage integration"? How? Will do opposite.
15 years for people in medium skilled jobs and care workers too. I believe this goes down to 10 years if they earn over £50,270. Someone in a high skilled job earning over that qualifies in 5 years.
