I don't mourn because I think Kirk was a positive component of US political discourse. I mourn that our discourse, rule of law and basic decency are so broken we've returned to the sixties' rampant political violence. Americans writ large no longer have a belief that legal processes solve anything.

ProPublica looked into science grants that Ted Cruz's team flagged as "radical" and "neo-Marxist" and, uh.

This would be good comedy if it didn't matter so much www.propublica.org/article/ted-...

I’ve always followed the dictum that politics should not interfere with relationships with friends and family. But my Dad fought in the Second World War and I’ve spent my entire life teaching about the virtues of self government. Preserving the republic means more to me than prolonging friendships

The AP must refuse this but more importantly the rest of the White House Correspondents Association should back them.

Boycott the press briefings until they relent, and if they refuse, walk out. There is no real use to them in any case.

Trump craves attention. Deny him that and he’ll cave.
"Today we were informed by the White House that if AP did not align its editorial standards with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, AP would be barred from accessing an event in the Oval Office."

If anyone claims that the current anti-trans panic was caused in any part by trans people advocating for our human rights, that person is lying through their teeth.

The religious right lost on marriage equality, and immediately started going after trans people instead. That's what happened.

Our top story: “One of the things that I grieve about is that what we see here is a kind of echo of other shameful episodes in Christianity’s past: the Crusades, antisemitic pogroms in Europe, biblical defenses of American slavery by Christians.”

Some federally funded community health centers — which serve rural areas with limited access to medical care — are still unable to access grant funding and are shutting down because of Trump's spending freeze.

We are witnessing an attack on America's most vulnerable people.

And so it begins...
I have an appointment at USA Medical Center for my that was made through the VA.

After driving 80 miles to get here, they told me that the VA hasn't authorized payment so they have to reschedule for next month

A federal judge has just ordered Musk to get out of Treasury’s computers. We are fortunate there are good lawyers representing democracy. Normally that would end the matter, but in this era there are legit questions about compliance & enforcement. We live on the edge of a constitutional crisis.

Keep your messaging simple:

“Trump fired everyone in charge of airplane safety, and a week later planes started crashing into each other.”

That’s it. That’s the messaging. Don’t get bogged down disputing Trump’s false claims. Just blame him, in short and repeatable sentences.

To recap, Trump:

-Forced out the FAA chief at Musk's insistence
-Imposed a hiring freeze that reportedly included air traffic controllers
-Fired the TSA head and gutted a key aviation safety committee
-Blamed the DCA crash on DEI

This is disastrous leadership.

Or on a disclaimer before every Mayday: Air Disaster episode.

Or on an Amber Alert type system to every American.

Or on a stamp.

Or maybe currency.

Something.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too.

Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more.

Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

It’s so important to pay attention to what they DO and NOT what they say.

They’re not even trying to lower prices.
Pardoning criminals is not going to lower crime rates. Arresting any immigrant without papers is not making us safer.

They are creating a spectacle, but what are they doing?

The Democrats’ role is to keep the opposition united and raise public awareness. They can’t block legislation or EOs on their own. They must look ahead to the next election while the GOP governs and likely wreaks havoc.
