I'd point out that Media had thousands of opportunities to care about incels, gamergate, Groypers, anti-trans movements, new conversion therapy, fascists, proud boys, and eugenicists, and that they had to ACTIVELY refuse to pay attention to not know all of this beforehand.
Media discovering groypers for the first time reminds me of when they first encountered incels. Those of us who study misogyny or followed Gamergate had been screaming about incel culture and violence for years. Coverage of hate groups is far too reactive.

Column by Philip Kennicott: The painting “Immigrants Crossing the Border Wall Into South Texas” was included on a list of Smithsonian artworks, exhibitions and programming that the Trump administration considers woke or anti-American.
Column | His art is inspired by Rubens and Velázquez. Trump says it’s woke.
The administration’s campaign against what it calls divisive art targets realism, representation, empathy and Christianity.

This finding indicates that the water quality issues at Willard Beach are likely the result of sewage leaking into stormwater rather than dog waste, according to Tracy Krueger, with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

Conservative state legislators aim to put a new amendment on the ballot that would ban abortion except for in emergencies, when a fetus has abnormalities, or in cases of rape or incest, but only if a police report is filed and within a 12-week limit.

The reckless decision to release billions of gallons of water from the Terminus and Schafer Dams is already hurting farms and farmers.

It’s a massive waste.

I'm demanding answers from the Army Corps of Engineers about what happened. And why.

SpaceX and StarLink fragmenting the functions of NASA into smaller “companies” that can be monetized by Private Capital is the blueprint the Oligarchy wants for America.

They want that for Health Care.

For Prisons.

For portions of our military (Blackrock).

They want to strip us down.
One thing that is glaringly obvious to anyone paying attention: The institutional media is being purchased and controlled by American oligarchs, and as such, can no longer be relied upon to carry out it's responsibility as the 4th estate.

The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse
