Worth noting: Korean law explicitly says that the crime of insurrection is an exception from presidential immunity. Never thought that would turn out to be useful but here we are.

As we begin another day of political uncertainty in Seoul,

- It's still unclear who is running what in the country
- No details about any power sharing arrangement that allegedly exists
- We don't know the legal rationale for any such deal
- The presidential office has essentially gone dark

My interview on Drop Site News, with video of the incredible events this week in South Korea.
🧵This week, South Koreans defied Joe Biden’s man in Seoul. President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Monday, “only to awake on Tuesday to discover that the National Assembly— backed by crowds of citizens gathering in protest—had overruled Yoon and restored their hard-won democratic system.”

This is a BFD. The US attitude "is being taken as an overt expression of distrust toward Yoon. Some speculate that this discontent was a factor behind the Pentagon indefinitely postponing a 4th Nuclear Consultative Group meeting & tabletop exercise" scheduled in DC Wednesday and Thursday.
‘Deep concern’: White House signals discontent with Yoon’s martial law order
The White House said it would continue to “speak out publicly” about the importance of keeping democracy in South Korea resilient

Korea's preeminent *conservative* paper of record exclusively reports that President Yoon ordered someone at the National Intelligence Service (Korean CIA) to arrest the head of his own party (who would later vote against martial law) and when the NIS man refused, ordered his dismissal.

Good. Get rid of it. It's a US-dominated "alliance" of unequal partners that should never have been created in the first place. I hope the people's resistance to Yoon's martial law is the nail in the coffin of Biden Militarism in Asia. No one but Washington insiders and Korea "experts" will mourn.

As I was saying...

"This feels like we are going through the May 18, 1980, Gwangju uprising again," said a woman to the Korea JoongAng Daily at the scene. “You call this a country?"

South Koreans fought hard for their democracy and will never lose it again.

data shows that the ultra-wealthiest segments in the U.S. control a greater share of wealth than during the Gilded Age. Since 1989 the top 0.1% got over $14 trillion dollars richer than the entire bottom 50 percent of America, whose share of wealth has fallen.

Donald Trump’s win represents the long triumph of a bipartisan embrace of oligarchy over our politics — and the ultra-rich will get even richer.
