Not someone with whom I always agree, but this. It seems like there's nonstop aggressive attempts to pull most of the country into an "US VERSUS THEM" psychodrama. I'm so proud of how many people are like "Nope. I know who I am and what I want this country to be. Stuff your hate and get over it."
I am proud to be born a Muslim.
I am proud to be born in Somalia.
I am proud to have become an American.

None of you can change that no matter how much you rage tweet.

I’d think what you’d want during a highly volatile, politically polarized time marked by violence is a president who can appeal to our common values and humanity and inspire calm and unity, rather than promising revenge.

Fellow word nerds! Check out @yvanspijk.bsky.social ‘s amazing infographics!
The Spanish word for a river is 'río'. 'Río' and 'river' - these must be etymologically related, mustn't they?

No! They're as unrelated as can be.

Surprisingly, 'río' is related to 'rival' and 'derive'.

'River' is related to 'riparian' and 'arrive'.

My new infographic tells you all about it:

Again. Ignoring expert public servants to promote private interests. Might as well start watering our plants with Brawndo. It’s what plants crave!
Full resignation letter from Demetre C. Daskalakis, a CDC leader, does not hold back.
"The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud."

It seems like we’ve reached a kind of Idiocracy tipping point where decisions are being made by people without the background or education to understand their impacts. Rather than listen to experts in public service, private interest groups have empowered myopic personal gain over public good.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.
