For World AIDS Day, which is Dec. 1 and which is being ignored by the Trump administration because they dislike the World Health Organization, other countries, science, and queer people, I'm reposting a piece I wrote earlier this year. (They also hate history.) www.vulture.com/article/hiv-...
The List Keepers
The AIDS crisis shattered Broadway, and the scope of the loss has never been fully accounted for. Some kept their own records.

It's okay for some campaign promises to be about optics rather than policy. "We're going to bulldoze his monument to himself on Day One and rebuild the East Wing" would be a very good one for 2028.

Look around. The case for more, not less, liberal arts education - actual, real education in reading, writing, thinking, arguing, analyzing, & synthesizing by doing the actual hard work for which there is no substitute - is stronger than it’s ever been at any point in human history.

It’s also notable that TPUSA employs rabid Islamophobes like this person. Imagine what the Trump admin would do to a university if they allowed an organization that said this about Jews and pork to establish themselves on campus.

I take Wikipedia for granted. Reading this Jimmy Wales interview reminded me in our Fantasyland age what a remarkable and important creation it is. True pillar of civilization. Runs on only $200 million a year. Requires our support. So I’m finally donating. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/m...

Your opponents are running a historically corrupt government.

Be anti-corruption. Run on fixing the shit they broke, holding assholes accountable, and improving people’s lives.

It’s a slogan for political operatives who think campaigns are won and lost based on placards and stump speeches.

It tells no story. It has no anchor in the actual world we actually live in. It is a type of politics that eschews being actually political at all.
