Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

CA in OC had lines when I voted this afternoon. Prop 50 (redistricting) is the only thing on the ballot. Many people doing same day registration to vote, unusual even in a presidential election. I didn’t expect lines, even with fewer polling sites.

There is no difference between Trump destroying the East Wing and using a wrecking ball on the Washington Monument or Smithsonian. Just because he (temporarily) lives there doesn't give him the right to demolish the White House without Congressional approval.

A physical attack on someone exercising their constitutional right to speak is an attack on all of us. The content of the speech is irrelevant. This is another sad day for America.

Trump's betting that people won't notice that he has inflicted - without Congres and without legal authority - one of the largest and most regressive peacetime tax increases in American history.

The CDC is one of Atlanta’s crown jewels. Dedicated public servants who are tireless advocates for public health. They deserve better than this administration’s disregard for science. We deserve much more from our government than conspiracy theories and indifference towards individuals’ well-being.

Again, the reason Trump keeps saying & doing whatever he wants is because every societal institution has decided that <only he> is exempt from all of the things. We don't need to do that. We could decide instead to simply be a serious country.
One reason Trump says & does whatever he wants is because every societal institution, including the media, has completely normalized & internalized the idea that the laws, the Constitution, & the international treaties we have signed & ratified simply don’t apply to this one guy. It’s maddening.

Trump’s furious denial that he wrote something in 2003 might be more persuasive if he hadn’t just shown us he doesn’t remember he appointed the fucking Fed Chair in 2017.

There's some giddy excitement as Republicans discover that tariffs bring in tax revenue.

Umm... yes. A tariff is a tax. Taxes raise revenue.

That's not in question.

Rather: Is this a tax that's efficient? (No.) Is it equitable? (No.) Does it serve our national interest? (No.)

So, if I have this right, Israel has started a war for regime change and nuclear disarmament but has neither the strategy nor the capabilities to ensure either. It's counting on the Iranian people and US bombs to achieve its goals.
Netanyahu: “Toppling the Iranian regime depends on the Iranian people. We are creating the conditions that will help them achieve that.”

Administration officials blocked publication of written analysis that normally accompanies the report because they disliked what it said about the deficit.
