History is not something that can be tied up neatly into a package with perfectly mitred corners. Instead it looks more like a young relative's attempts to wrap a strangely shaped and possibly concerning birthday present. 8/
A full-body slump there from Holger on being told the team challenge is a slouchy cardigan, but apparently it will involve stitch definition and precision. #GameOfWool

'It's not quite real'. Well, no, because it is made of wool.

'It needs more abstraction to make it real'. What??

Is Tom wearing series of twiddle muffs stitched together? #GameOfWool.

I still don't see the point of this challenge. I dread to think what they are going to make these poor knitters do next.

Ok Radio 3, I love you, but now you are taking the piss with this so-called 'Christmas Overture'. Please bring the monks of Quarr Abbey back. Meanwhile, I'm off to church for #Advent Sunday (not Christmas) and am turning you off.

Today is the first Sunday in Advent. That would be ADVENT, not Christmas (are you listening Radio 3, it's the season of #Advent, not Christmas, even if you are playing Berlioz's 'Shepherds' Farewell with its lovely alto part).

Cue @quiresandplaces.com Matins Responsary t-shirt.

With apologies to Mr T.S. Eliot

"He turns and looks a moment at the score,
Hardly aware of the final whistle;
His brain allows one half-formed thought to pass:
'Well now that’s done: and I’m glad it’s over.’"

I am doing my reading for tomorrow's preaching course study day and am coming to the conclusion that my theology is more systemic-based than narrative.

Lovely to see #medievalsky posting Leeds IMC acceptances. I won't be there in 2026 and it looks like I'll miss many good papers.

Another day, another Normans meeting! This time about the proposed cultural route post-2027. Exciting times!

We were treated to a brilliant talk by @cathamclarke.bsky.social at CCCU yesterday: poetry, history, time-travel. It is so good to be reminded of the great scholarship still happening in spite of the absolute shambles of HE at the moment.

Brilliant performance of M.R. James ghost stories by Robert Lloyd Parry tonight!

I have had a very Norman day today. This morning CCCU hosted and I chaired a round table involving a delegation of tourism people and heritage professionals from Normandy and partners in Kent. This afternoon, teaching third years about the Norman church.

This evening, M.R. James ghost stories!
