Someone has tried to rip up one of the vinyls on the pilgrim steps. Someone else has graffiti the graffiti with references to sympathetic Bible verses.

We also looked for older graffiti - the installation is nothing new. 2/

Forvtheircweek on heritage and place, I took the MA Heritage students to 'Hear Us', the graffiti-style installation at Canterbury Cathedral. They were both receptive and critical. We had a great discussion of intention, inclusion/exclusion, theology of questions etc. 1/

A weekend of contrasts. A lovely day at Usk Show on Saturday (with a win in the knitting class) and seeing family.

Today, seeing the reporting of yesterday's far right march in England and wishing the media and politicians would call it what it is. 1/

Travelling to Canterbury after @cathamclarke.bsky.social's wonderful 'In conversation' with Hannah Lowe to launch Catherine's new book. Lovely to catch up with lots of medievalists!

Pleased to see @cathamclarke.bsky.social's latest book, 'A History of England in 25 Poems' in Canterbury Waterstones! #skystorians #medievalsky

Well, final day of my @leverhulme.ac.uk MRF and here is the draft. Ideally the book would be a bit more finished, but it wouldn't be at this stage at all with out the Leverhulme's generous funding. Grateful thanks to the trust. #normans #medievalsky

The poster session is always a highlight of the Battle Conference #Battle2025

It did. But now it has some kind of circle around it which either introduces a hitherto unknown fourth person of the Trinity or puts limits on the Trinity. Either way, heretical.

Bought a book second-hand online. Opened it to find it has been deaccessioned from my university's library...

The Battle Conference coincided with the grand finale in Paris in 2017! We spent the say at St Denis and then watched the tour whizz past in the Tuileries!

Here's cheesy Norman land art from this year's edition.

Boosting the thread for the afternoon crowd and here is me stitching a bit of La Mora tapestry created by Tina Greene from Battle. It shows the dedication of William's flagship funded by Mathilda of Flanders. #IMC2025 #BayeuxTapestry

I love my garden, but it is a struggle when you've a slum landlord next door who does not maintain the fence, dumps rubbish and generally does no cutting back of brambles. I am covered in scratches.

Extreme no mow May in places. The fence in the pic is ours responsibility.

Jesus gives his new commandment and washes the disciples' feet (Monreale cathedrale).

The altar is stripped and bare and we've scattered like the disciples. #MaundyThursday

Roger II's mosaics in the Palazzo Reale. These represent the Royal hunting park around La Zisa (now a heavily built up area of Palermo). And we bumped into @dollyjorgensen.bsky.social @finnarne.me and family!

Yesterday, my friend and I had an adventure to Enna (Castrogiovanni). It's the highest provincial capital in Italy and was a Norman stronghold. We could see Etna!
