Welcome to Existentialists Anonymous.
Can anyone tell me why we're here?
This mug caught my eye at a charity shop because it looked like a Goth Bod. On closer inspection, it was meant to be Voldemort from the Harry Potter franchise. Think I'm sticking with Goth Bod 😁

Yesterday, I went to a works do, which on the face of it was absolutely fine. People chatted and interacted. The food was good, the afternoon was fine.

I, however, was not.

It was not other people. It was me. Switching backwards and forwards whilst hard-core masking is not sustainable for 5 hours.

Beautiful
Tseng Kuo Cheng. It reminds us of how we carry the people we meet with us throughout our lives, holding onto memories or lessons that have made us who we are today.(Allibear)

We talk about Bluesky getting users, but Bluesky is part of an open social internet called "The Atmosphere" where other people can make their own apps, including their own versions of Bluesky.

Bluesky isn't growing; the Atmosphere is! You're not "our" users; you're a part of a shared place.

Alright, valid question sent to me: how do I get my novel critiqued?

Here are some tips, not rules. Do as thou wilt.

1. Don't send your first draft to anybody. EVER.
2. See number one. I'm not kidding.
3. Develop a network of writers for mutual critique. Online groups exist for this purpose.

My editing advice when writing for online is always cut this/make it shorter. It's not that I think readers are dumb it's that I think everybody online has no functional attention span

Writing for money is a tradition going back literally hundreds of years, for as long as there has been a market for manuscripts and codices. Yes, many early writers were supported by either wealthy patrons or places like monasteries, but hell, Shakespeare wrote his plays because he was PAID TO.

Happy Birthday to Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein at sixteen, yes, but her other real accomplishment was keeping her late husband's desiccated heart in her desk til she died.
