“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

The next Democratic president should declare that the National Emergencies Act and Article II of the Constitution allow him to:

•admit D.C. and Puerto Rico as states
•abolish ICE
•grant citizenship to any immigrant
•disband the 5th Circuit
•expand the Supreme Court

Seriously: Why the hell not?

I think you’ve zeroed in on a very important point. People think government isn’t necessary because everything around them just seems to work, and they don’t realize how any of that happened.

How much of the current Republican ideology stems from having comfortable lives thanks government? OSHA exists b/c far too many workers were killed or injured. EPA exists because there were far too many environmental disasters. FDA exists because the food supply was too suspect in the past.

The numbers speak volumes:

When you’re losing over 95% of the federal cases you’re involved in even though you’re the United States Government and get the benefit of the doubt, maybe you’re just not obeying the rule of law!
Stunning. May was brutal for Trump in federal court: 96% loss rate ⚖️. Even GOP-appointed judges have ruled against the admin 72% of the time. District courts are doing their job defending the Constitution. Soon the Supreme Court may be the only court unwilling to defend the rule of law.

Given the news out of Harvard and the sustained attacks on student protesters, it seems like a good time to re-up this.
When Donald Trump threatens student protests, consider why: throughout modern history, student movements have repeatedly been the catalyst that toppled dictatorships. Authoritarian leaders fear campus activism precisely because it works. Below is a list of 36 student-led pro-democracy movements.🧵

the worst one is not on this list:

A provision in the proposed spending bill would restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government officials in contempt when they violate court orders. Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless

This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!
The Supreme Court goes out of its way to say that its order today does NOT allow Trump to remove members of the Federal Reserve because it is "uniquely structured" and has a "distinct history tradition." (I do not think those distinctions hold water.) www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
