Currently rereading the Locked Tomb (the most delightfully tonally confused series in sff) as a holiday treat and stumbled on this little gem of a panel discussion (ft. Muir, TJ Klune, Samantha Shannon, & Tasha Suri) while scouring the interwebs for tlt content

DEATH OF THE AUTHOR by Nnedi Okorafor.

I just finished this and love it. Both straightforward lit fic and a sci-fi mindfuck. Swaps back and forth between an author and the book she writes. The two stories start blending together. The narration was also lovely in the audiobook.

Get a copy of The Deep Dark for yourself or as a gift. You will not regret it. I adore that book. Gorgeous tale about finding support and learning to live with your weird smol serpentine fox demon

One of the best middle grade novels I've read as an adult. Now granted, I don't read that much middle grade fiction (apparently I should change that -- this was fun), but I can just imagine a kid falling in love with reading & books as physical media ...

It's ok that there are books I don't get. That doesn't make them 'pretentious' and it doesn't mean I'm dumb. Anti-intellectualism can suck it. In its current online form it's nothing but a bunch of people insecure in their own stupidity.

Emily Tesh is good at books. Strong character voices, some Pratchettian humour (imps in electronics feels like a deliberate homage), & a (although unabashedly unsubtle) really well crafted thematic throughline 🪐📚

Hottest literary take of the century /s: Nabokov is really good actually.
Read "Speak Memory". It's such a genuinly lovely exploration of memory and heimweh interspersed with real moments of brilliant prose. + it's funny.

Umberto Eco compared his huge "antilibrary" of unread books to medicines. He'll need (and read) them - just not now. No one questions a well-stocked medicine cabinet, so why do people balk at a well-stocked medicine cabinet for the mind?

Nassim Taleb built on Eco's position in "The Black Swan":

This book got me through my reading fatigue (and reading is kinda my job as a lit student. the hell am i gonna write papers on if not the stuff i'm reading). I wasn't in love with it the whole way through but Harrow does just write some damn quotable lines that kept me going.
