Look, whether or not this — probably, though I am not a lawyer, unlawful — “pause” applies to Medicaid or not, it is conspicuous, unsurprising, and NEWSWORTHY that the memo explicitly stipulates that it “should not be construed to impact” Medicare or Social Security but Medicaid goes unmentioned.
There is some ambiguity about whether this “pause” means that no Medicaid or CHIP payments can go out for 2 weeks. Hearing different interpretations from different budget experts.

With a number of cancers that still don't have reliable early detection tools, exciting to see Congress come together to prioritize a pathway to coverage of innovation in multi-cancer early detection. Willing Congress to finish the job and pass the year-end CR in short order!

There is unlikely to be a debate called "ACA repeal" next year. But, big cuts to the ACA and Medicaid are looming, and they could mean a dramatic increase in the number of people uninsured.

Medicaid is health insurance but it's also economic security. Medicaid means less medical debt, higher household incomes, and the effects go on. To be here in 2024 reading about plans to cut Medicaid after an "economic" election is fundamentally disorienting. Opponents of Medicaid are out of touch.
Census Health Inclusive Poverty Measure incorporates insurance into poverty measurement. 2 things jumped out to me from this measure
1) The Marketplaces bring 1.8 million people out of poverty
2) Poverty is even more concentrated in states that didn't expand Medicaid

Between April 2023 and August 2024, more than 24.8 million people were kicked off Medicaid. Some of them were no longer eligible. But in an eye-watering 70% of cases, there was no explanation.

Medicaid is the reason that my amazing disabled daughter is able to live at home with her family instead of being institutionalized in a medical facility. This is personal; it's what got me involved in health care advocacy in 2017 and it's what I will be focused on in 2025.

Medicaid is the reason that my amazing disabled daughter is able to live at home with her family instead of being institutionalized in a medical facility. This is personal; it's what got me involved in health care advocacy in 2017 and it's what I will be focused on in 2025.
