Right. Choir/classical music nerds, this is for you. Everyone else, you’re dismissed.

A very deep cut: Do any of you know of a recording of Haydn’s Creation that uses as the text the Michael Pilkington Novello edition (i.e New Novello, not old Novello). For the life of me I cannot find one.

Maybe if Labour stop trying to appeal to the far right they would do better in the polls, I dunno.

There should be an 'AI slop' emoji you can slap on "historical" "photos" that will follow them round like a watermark unless the poster can cite a source.

Yes. Good writing is hard but it’s an “invisible” skill in many fields. If you write cogently and clearly people just notice the content not the writing. They only notice the writing when it gets in the way.

ppl keep mistaking Jurassic Park for a survival film against dinosaurs when it's actually a survival film against startup culture
Deep in my heart I do not believe that Jurassic Park would pose substantially different or more challenging security issues than any well stocked zoo.

I've been gifted some papers from someone who worked on the Royal Navy ice patrol ship HMS Protector, which served in Antarctica in the 1960s, and if any ship had a better logo than its cheery nautical penguin I want to know about it. 🐧🐧🐧

One of the things that bothers me a lot about AI* search/website generation is its effect on what I tend to think of as 'boring facts'. Recent examples for me:

* Obligatory note: 'AI' covers many things, some of which are useful (and/or have been re-named, see 'machine learning'...)

@dangerpawbeans.bsky.social You have to admit the Beluga would fit right in here
Every museum should have a Little Guys Tour, and at the end of the tour you can buy reproductions of all the little guys

Here's a call for help I did not expect to be making

Do I know any medical practitioners or medical historians on here with expertise in STDs? Because I'd just *love* to ask your opinion on an 18thC autopsy report, & exactly what disease it might indicate

Who could resist that ?! #18c

Friends, are there any #Authors of #History books, the whole range of history from early to present day, who would be open to be interviewed for a new project I’m putting together. It’s a nice thing 🤣🤣 nothing nasty. I want to talk to you about being an author. DM please I’ll explain more.

UK WRITERS: You need to fill in this consulation. Govt is very clearly looking to an opt-out model of rights licensing that puts all the burden on creators instead of profiteers. It's long and boring but this is important.

Copyright and Artificial Intelligence
This consultation seeks views on how the government can ensure the UK’s legal framework for AI and copyright supports the UK creative industries and AI sector together.

At a polar conference I went to last month, anyone going over length on their presentations got a stuffed penguin thrown at them.
At the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Conference, if you run over your time, you are literally forced to exit, pursued by a bear.

The bear can and will take your paper from you to shut you up.
I could not tell you how often I have done readings with male writers who go way over the allotted time limit, biting into other people's reading time or making the event last way longer than it was supposed to.

But the worst ones are the ones who go: "I'll just read until someone stops me."
