Thinking a lot about how poorly our brains recognize long term subtle changes, like climate change or biodiversity loss. We've lost something like 1 out of every 4 individual birds in the US since 1970, more for some species.
There should be at least 25% more birds around you right now.

Opposite of my Mom in so many ways (e.g., uh, geopolitical worldview) but alike in some other weird ones. We both brush our teeth in one bathroom but do hair/any makeup in a different one in the house. What is time, even?

Got stranded at the Atlanta airport last night & was lucky enough to secure a hotel. Tried to explain to the cab driver who took me to the hotel what the Democrats were fighting for/holding out for (ACA subsidies). I wonder if he is thinking tonight that what he was hearing from me was crazy talk.

Lots of sea turtles along the coast in the St Pete / Clearwater area this month in addition to all the rays. There are sea turtles along the coast here all year, but I've been seeing a lot more than usual lately. Most are 100-400 feet from shore. #nature #animals #awesome #ocean #turtle #wildlife

We're going to a bat walk next week! 🦇 This is exciting! I can't be trusted to make ticket arrangements when I'm tired, though - because I thought I saw this was happening tomorrow night, and it was only when I got the email that I realized my mistake.

not just useless - they're profoundly stupid, confusing (weak) correlation for causation, when there's plenty of actual data & insights they could have used instead

I see that my heretofore foolproof rule of not partaking in postseason baseball - unless the team I'm rooting for is up by at least 3 runs - has failed me. Mariners fans, that home run was my fault because now my not listening produces the opposite effect.

I would really rather not have the NLCS be the Dodgers vs the Cubs, thank you very much, so here's hoping the Brewers can get it back together sooner rather than later and dispatch the Cubs. Otherwise, my rooting interests will go completely over to whatever AL team is in the World Series.
