This is why fascism is for losers. It is the last gasp of a group of ideologues who realize that they've already lost the future and have nothing to lose by burning it all down. Everything made more sense when I realized that a few years ago. Fascists are residual culture that refuse to go away.

The most optimistic thing that can be said about our current moment is that we are in for years of constant change.

Sure, bad stuff is happening, and there's lots of reason for concern. But everything that seemed certain in the past is up for grabs today, and the future has not yet been written.

I’m absolutely the worst version of my self at this point every winter, but I’m feeling ESPECIALLY terrible this winter.

I will be drowning my sorrows in bread until Spring. Carb therapy.

Caving to the cruel instincts lurking in the bitter corners of our hearts will only ever hold us back, and it will be the thing that haunts us in the end. We have to not give in to the desire to allow people to suffer because we have decided they deserve it. Now is the time to build.

What is actually helpful is holding the line with our friends and neighbours in the states. None of us gain anything by embracing flag waving nationalism, we move forward by building coalitions and networks of support between ourselves.

I think the response of self-satisfied nationalism in the face of all this is a misguided reaction, and it's not going to be the thing that saves us. I see a lot of "Canada First" rhetoric that should be alarming given our own history. I've seen calls to shut off access to power, to cut off ppl.

MFer I grew up before NAFTA. I didn't have an avocado until I was 15 years old. I ate lunch in a Zellers cafeteria. I thought Robin Hood was just a guy who made flour.

I was made for this moment.
