Last week there was a large protest in Lansing solely about the data centers. Speakers and attendees were from all parts of the political spectrum as well as from all regions of the state. They were unified in opposition to the rush job they have all been experiencing.

The media has done an ok job of trying to push back on White House hyping fraud amount — any is bad enough — but using a vague and ultimately unsupported figure is journalistic malpractice. Which prosecutor said this? Their boss wouldn’t back it up. Journalists too eager to take prosecutor crumbs.

Minneapolis City Council Member Jason Chavez was running for reelection in June when he posted a flyer on X promoting a drag show fundraiser at Hook & Ladder Theater. A user named “TrumpBatman” replied with an expletive, posting, “Hope someone goes there to sh*t the place up hard.” In other posts around that time, that user repeatedly called Chavez “beanie” and “burrito girl,” writing, with asterisks, he hoped Chavez would “get hit by a b**” on the way to the DFL Caucus Night and that he and the “rest of the illegals needs to get executed by MPD firing squad.” The user also tagged Chavez on a video clip depicting a person being assaulted at gunpoint. The caption said the Ward 9 council member “is next.” Chavez previously meant to discuss his case only after charges were filed but decided to speak after Koski publicly disclosed on Monday that for more than two years, she has been stalked by a man who invaded her personal space, followed her to her car and vandalized her property. The same man allegedly also harassed Koski’s successor, Jamison Whiting. Both took out harassment restraining orders against him. But even with a restraining order, Koski said she still lives in fear of retaliation and escalation — a fear that is increasingly normalized in politics. “Do we go back to ‘normal?’ ” she asked in an email to constituents. “And is that even possible after all that has happened?” Council Member Katie Cashman also obtained a restraining order in October, she revealed to the Star Tribune on Wednesday. In her case, a neighbor who lived one house down from her in Loring Heights sent hundreds of abusive emails commenting on her clothes and hair when she entered and left her house over 2½ years. Much of the correspondence suggested she was not qualified for leadership due to her age and sex, Cashman said. “It’s pretty triggering, so I just really tried to ignore it. And I tried to ignore it for a really long time,” she said. “The last straw for me was when he started emailing my staff, asking when I was going to be home.”

Not sure if city folks, especially fellow southwest Minneapolis fatheads, realize how diverse Apple Valley High School is. It’s a hell of a lot more diverse than my neighborhood city high school (Washburn, the 2nd-least diverse high school in the city.)

I’m glad they forced Frey to finally implement a program they funded last year, for the next three years. Frey essentially unallotted an approved program, which was actual bullshit, but the council won out. You probably won’t read kind op-eds about the council upholding proper procedure.

JUST IN: After weeks of talks, Minneapolis' mayor & City Council leadership have reached an agreement on the $2 billion city budget

Mayor Frey and council budget chair @aishaforward10.com jointly announced a deal that resolves the big sticking points — especially earmarks to MPD spending
The critical areas of the amended agreement are: • An amended source and duration for an emergency housing voucher program. With the agreement of Hennepin County and the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority, the City will appropriate $1M per year for the next three years for an emergency housing vouchers pilot program. This compromise will ensure we are able to operate the voucher pilot without laying off hard working City employees and prevent a permanent $1 million cut to the Minneapolis Police Department. • Clarification on establishment of a non-fatal shooting task force. There is a shared commitment to establish a non-fatal shooting task force. The amended language, as well the attached memo from the City Attorney, clarifies that Council’s only role is to appropriate funds. The Administration has the sole authority to establish a new Police Department task force, and will do so in a way that will not strain already very limited staffing resources. An implementation plan for this task force will be presented early next year, including required funding. Any remaining, unneeded funds will then be released. • An amendment on the earmark for civilian investigators. Removing the requirement that the funds must be used for civilian investigators will make it easier for the Police Department to investigate all crimes effectively. This is not a perfect budget. In particular, I disagree with the more than $10 million in increased spending and the sizable impact that it will have on property taxes in future years. I also have concerns about how this budget may impact our ability to fully implement the reforms required under the Settlement Agreement and Consent Decree. However, I am committed to enacting this amendment budget agreement because it preserves core City services, avoids layoffs, limits new ongoing spending, and largely reflects the shared responsibility we have to govern responsibly. My administration will continue to work collaboratively with the Council for …
