The Democratic party today remains trapped in its neoliberal past.

But working Americans everywhere are raging against corporate power - a rising political antimonopoly movement. The Dem party will either embrace it, or lose. New from me in @thenation.com

MINNEAPOLIS: “All I did was step outside as a Somali American citizen, and I got chased by a masked person, assaulted, kidnapped. It was inhumane. If this is what’s happening to a 🇺🇸 citizen on camera, imagine what could happen to your loved ones.”

Today's absurd sci-fi headline that's somehow our reality: Fact-checkers barred from immigrating to the U.S.

On the radio this morning, I heard a story about a school in Baltimore that had replaced detention with mindfulness and meditation periods, and has seen a drastic drop in suspensions over a decade. I think as a society that already treats children poorly we are too quick to label them as bad.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

I figure I need to explain how extreme and irresponsible is the June 7 Memorandum federalizing the National Guard and authorizing regular armed forces.

Those saying anything in support of this action may not realize what they’ve gotten into.

(It will also escalate from here.)

One of the early outrages in the Red Scare was Truman’s EO asserting that “sympathetic association” with communist groups was grounds for being fired from a federal job.

That was bad enough, but now they’re saying alien residents can be deported for what they claim are their “expected beliefs”
Imagine trying to deport someone for their "expected beliefs"

Sometimes I am struck quite forcefully by how Trump’s greatest weapon is us: our collective ignorance, indifference, laziness, quickness to anger, willingness to cede reason to a strongman, willingness to believe the worst of the Other. We are his terrible swift sword.
