Hard, for me, to think of Liverpool as a tourist destination (compared to a visit in the 70’s) but see this yesterday!

Love this part of the world; thank you for reminding me of it
The flat rocks on the #Northumberland #coast between #Bamburgh and Budle Bay, make a great feature for a #longexposure at high tide, with the small, squat lighthouse on the horizon. If you zoom in you can clearly see the white #StagRock.

I don't see many long threads on here, but I'll try one - it's about Holbein's Ambassadors, his 1533 masterpiece in the National Gallery. It's often presented as a great mystery, but I think once we understand the circumstances in which it was made, its meaning becomes clearer.

Will we ever solve the mystery of why people drive when they should be able to walk?
I have just driven to the doctors. Every pavement is like a skating rink, you can see a solid sheet of ice on every single inch. The roads however, lovely gritted black tarmac.

A few potential words of the day:

Joblijock: a disturber of domestic peace (small children, cantankerous uncles, etc).

Yule-hole: the furthest notch in your belt that you need to resort to at Christmas.

Confelicity: joy in other people’s happiness.

Merry Christmas.

Humphrey’s world: how the Samuel Smith beer baron built Britain’s strangest pub chain
Since the 1970s, Humphrey Smith has acquired scores of pubs and historic properties around the UK. But time after time, he has left the buildings empty. Why has he allowed his empire to moulder?

Diamonds (well, pyrites crystals) on the soles of her shoes: A #prehistoric Scythian woman could show off her soft red leather boots - decorated with tin-wrapped embroidery thread, gold foil & glass beads - as she sat on the ground in S Siberia c300BC, perhaps taking a break from riding.

It’s not been this cold during the day for a few years (Staffordshire). The MVHR ‘pre-heater’ came on at 2.30 am and won’t be off today I think. Uses about 1 kW. Q? Costs more than it saves on a day like today…
