The truth: The ADL could close tomorrow and many brands would still not want their ads to appear on a functionally unmoderated platform. The problem is Musk, not the ADL. But as long as he scapegoats Jews for his own failures, Musk will never be able to rationally address them.

Antisemites perpetually blame Jews for whatever problems they personally perceive in the world. What is being done to the ADL on Twitter right now has little to do with anything it has done, and everything to do with the symbolic role Jews play in the conspiratorial imagination.

Any actual lawsuit against the ADL, like any honest look into Twitter's complete records, would reveal that the ADL was a bit player among the many forces that pushed Twitter to moderate its content. The comparably tiny Jewish org pales in comparison to the many non-Jewish ones.

Musk is not going to sue the ADL (he'd lose) anymore than he was going to cage fight Mark Zuckerberg (he'd lose). At this point, no media outlet should be uncritically parroting the bombastic things Musk randomly says on Twitter and then never follows through on.
