Remember the part in the old Peter Pan play where Peter tells the boys and girls in the audience that if they all just clap harder they can save Tinkerbell?

That's what Trump's Cabinet Meeting reminded me of. A bunch of children wildly applauding him, all in an effort to bring him back to life.

The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

A Terrible and Avoidable Tragedy in D.C.

Americans, 2024: I generally remember pre-COVID being better than post-COVID and blocked out 2020. Let's do pre-COVID again.

Americans, 2025: So it turns out that Trump was not the reason things felt better pre-COVID, and Biden was not the reason things felt worse after.

Ugh. I am "hurt my back while filling the dishwasher" years old today. Going to celebrate with Tylenol and coffee. Livin' the life, that's me.

Today's to-do list:
Tidy up the house
Run the dishwasher
Thaw Whole Foods beef wellington dinner (a real treat as a care provider)
Plan out appetizers

Today's do-not-do list:
Do not put up the Christmas tree
Do not try to deep clean anything

Setting up holiday music is fine but not critical.

A mayoral candidate saying maybe the city should cover the cost of bus rides gets the full socialism panic treatment before he even tries it.

A sitting president taking billions of dollars worth of shares in private companies gets “I must say, a tad unusual” after it’s been going for nearly a year.

Weird dream: reality show with Harry Potter characters as 70s pop stars. There was also a kidnapping plot that may have been terrorists or rabid Potter fans. When Ted Danson arrived as the show runner, I woke up.

Shawn McCreesh, who wrote today's misty water-colored nostalgia story about Jeffrey Epstein's "Lost New York" at NYT, told St. John's j-school students last year that journalism is great because “It gives you this all-access pass to interact with these people we would otherwise never come across.”
Shawn McCreesh ’15 Shares His Journey to The New York Times
The St. John’s University Division of Mass Communication held a virtual panel featuring New York Times political feature writer and St. John’s alumnus, Shawn McCreesh, as part of the Journalist Series...

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

Trump ranting about sedition, hangings, and death because some members of Congress said that US military personnel have to follow US law is quite bad, yes.

But it's frustrated impotence more than actionable threat.

He can't get James Comey in jail, he's far from able to murder members of Congress.

As MTG goes on her “but I’m normal” rehabilitation tour, remember her history of conspiracy theories & flirtation with Nazis like Nick Fuentes. To this day, she continues to spread anti-Jewish conspiracy theories. She’s not normal, unless you mean normal compared to Fuentes.

And a call to every university across the U.S. to refuse to sacrifice academic freedom to Donald Trump.

Because once we get rid of Trump, we need to have laid the groundwork for reversing this, for saying, "remember when we could have nice things? Well, the way to get that back quickly is to fire the kidnappers and rehire the cancer scientists."

Concur.

Police in a healthy society/polity are not a military/paramilitary force. They are a branch of the civil power, and their authority ultimately rests (or should) on the consent of the governed/policed.

When the police become occupiers, nothing good happens.
I simply refuse to accept that police ever have to look like this. this is just pure cosplay. it should be illegal for cops to be dressed like soldiers going to war.
