It is *lunacy* for the ostensibly liberal opposition party to say we shouldn't limit any individual's wealth and power after watching a cadre of fascist billionaires systematically destroy this country. That's probably the single most important thing we *must* do!

My iPhone 12Pro is the longest lasting phone I've had. Besides the lightning port, nothing else about it feels outdated and I haven't seen anything that's made me long for newer models. This is a good thing! Capitalism relies on things being bad.

I shit on AI all the time and refuse to use ChatGPT etc ever...except right now I'm desperate for help with something that I thought it might be able to do and I can't seem to do any other way.

So, it can't do exactly what I was thinking but the response it's giving me is shockingly good. Argh.

I'm assuming most people here agree that Democrat pedophiles or pedophile enablers should also be exposed?

I did some math that revealed Kim Kardashian, who says she spends $1-5 mil/year on "beauty", spends ~.05% of her net worth on this.

I do the most minimal anything and mostly reject the concept, but spend ~1% of my income on it anyway.

Makes you think about taxing the rich.

Among the predictable failures of mainstream papers (I have worked at several) is a tendency to uncritically adopt, rather than interrogate, the language that people use for their actions.

A structure taller than its entire 4-story neighbor and 2 times its sq footage is not a “ballroom.” Come on.

I guess some people didn't understand what the movie was about?
I don’t know if there’s a more perfect illustration of the utter fucking nonsense that creative pollution by AI will produce than this choice to illustrate the power of Paramount’s new “localization” and “customization” technology by face-swapping Brad Pitt into the lead role of GET OUT

Loved this from @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social, especially where he suggests David Brooks should volunteer to take notes at an organizing meeting rather than writing dumb articles. It's also good inspiration for all of us to join a group that's already doing stuff. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/shift-chan...

another thing they did is anytime I see someone being like "actually they were performative and useless" I quietly add them to a list of people whose thoughts on politics can be immediately disregarded.
What, if anything, did the No Kings protests accomplish?

I've seen that pop up in everything from genuine inquiry to sneering dismissal. For anyone asking or facing that question, here's an answer.

Everything isn't all fixed, of course. But the protests accomplished at least these seven things:

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

I didn't see too many, but I was definitely irked by the crap AI signs a few people had at the march. Also the "jokes" were all dependent on exaggerating Trump's fatness (and hence amorality) which didn't help my mood about it. Anyway, cardboard, markers and paint are fun and way cooler!
i’ve been wanting to write something about AI as the ultimate fascist anti-aesthetic but then he posts stuff like this and it just makes my point for me
and another thing: he’s not mad. please don’t put it in the newspaper that he got mad.

It takes no special technical expertise to know that
1) AI's main value proposition today is automating labor,
2) AI is going to supercharge economic inequality, and
3) If we do not get out in front of that policy-wise, we are fools.
