The appearance of the #Measles rash on dark skin can look a lot different than the conventional signifiers on dark skin. The trademark rosacea of Measles may be lesser or even missing entirely, while blotchy patches of discolored skin known as macules may be found instead. #SciArt #MedicalArt
A stye forms when the normally benign Staph bacteria on the skin infect the eyelid.

It's interesting when a normally benign bacteria or organism becomes pathogenic under the right circumstances. So often, in #medicine, does everything depend on the context! And the dosage makes the poison! #SciArt

Our dead NSF grant proposal had most of these words. Bad words. We used bad words.
Word cloud of the titles of the over 500 NSF grants canceled, as documented in grant-watch.us/nsf-data.html . The two most common words (research, collaborative) excluded. The word cloud tells the whole story. 🧪#AcademicSky

Very troubling new study + mind boggling how large an effect this is having (on sea levels and even Earth’s rotation!) 🧪🌎

“Changes are likely irreversible while humans are alive,” is a worrying turn of phrase.

Earth’s soil is drying up. It could be irreversible.
The losses in soil moisture already pose issues for farming, irrigation systems and critical water resources for humans. But new research shows how the declines are contributing to sea-level rise more...

If you’re in LA - 12 pm at the Federal Building on Wilshire…
We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?

long periods of #AtrialFibrillation can result in #stroke. Irregular heartbeats prevent the atria from fully emptying, creating areas of stagnant blood along the atrial wall that are vulnerable to clot formation. If this clotting occurs in the left atria, there is a risk of stroke. #SciArt #ArtShare

In a world that feels particularly chaotic, let’s take a moment to find each other and celebrate one another.

One of my big surprises of 2024 was that we are actually making a lot of progress (albeit messy and with a great deal of argument) in the science of the origin of life on Earth.

If you’re under 40, we’ll probably have a pretty good understanding of it in your lifetime.
