Here's a juvenile Green Woodpecker commission that I painted last month and can now share 🐦 It was inspired by a moment from a birding trip, when we finally managed to see the species that had been escaping them again and again.

Day 21 of #ArtAdventCalendar and I present to you this luminous Green Honeycreeper...

An original digital illustration of a Green Honeycreeper bird perched on a branch. The branch is placed diagonally from top left to bottom right on the image. With the slight perspective of looking up at the bird you can see the dark browny tail feathers and lower wing feathers which then lead to an explosion of iridescent blue green feathers that cover most of the body. The only other exception is an area of black feathers on the head that form a V shape coming down from the red eye of the bird. Its beak is mildly elongated and tapers slightly down to a sharp point, the bottom half of which is a bright yellow and the top half a blue gray colour. The background is made up of light blue inky washes.

The Pacific Wren is a tiny forest undergrowth dweller of western North America.

Until recently it was considered the same species as the Winter Wren and the Eurasian Wren, which explains why it looks so similar to the wrens I see in my neighbourhood 😁

Pygmy Nuthatch #Birdtober

Nuthatches are known for their ability to climb on trees head down, so I thought it would be fun to depict that 😊 This species lives in the long-needled pine forests in North America.
