Oh, and I’m Deaf 🧏🏻‍♀️
One of the things that stood out to me when I visited Canada that I didn’t see much of in the US - there were signs everywhere explaining the funding source (with specifics). A plaque in the museum, a small shop sign near public parks, that sort of thing. It was really refreshing transparency. 🇨🇦

People call these weeds, I call them the first sign of spring. 🌱 I love the turning of the seasons and the changes that come in my garden. My cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the crepes will follow soon. In moments like these, everything feels alright.

Look I have zero excuses for this, but the idea popped into my head and now it's in your head, sorry

This #caturday I wanted to share my third and youngest cat - Porkchop, also known as Pig. 🥰 She’s currently around seven months old and was found with Mr. Man - she’s been terrorizing my linens ever since. She has unique proportions - short legs, short tail, and a long body.

Popped up to Canada for a quick visit with my in-laws - exactly what I needed. 🫶🏻🇨🇦 Canadian spring!

I have shared this story, this thread, before - but I think given the state of the world, it's worth telling once again. Maybe it can help, especially if like me, you make art, and you wonder what the use of all of it is right now.

Most of my time lately: doomscrolling, petting cats, and working on my little clay paint palettes. This one’s going into the glaze load next week, fingers crossed that the glitter is glittering! 📸 is pre-application of the sparkly glaze. ✨

This was actually really helpful to read. 💕
A big barrier to getting started painting is believing that you can do it.

This is why people get bogged down in endless prep. They're waiting until they have the right tools, or the right working area, to start.

It's normal and human, but trust me, you can do it!

I'm fine with a period piece that's set in ancient Egypt though. Because they bathed up to four times a day. Their sewage system was on point and they've been cleaning their teeth since 5000 BC.

Happy #Caturday! The cat distribution system recently chose me for a pair of cats. 😍 It’s been a busy time getting them healthy and fixed, but here’s the long-tailed gentleman, Mr. Man! He’s a Siamese mix and extremely food-motivated, I predict a menace. 😵‍💫

I now have three cats - max catpacity. 🐾

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Alright, I’ve hopped on @flashes.blue and immediately, I can say I personally absolutely love the portfolio option - a self-curated collection of posts separate from the full feed. It will be so useful in networking and I don’t need to juggle multiple accounts - brilliant feature.

Oh yeah, here’s that tiny paint palette I was working on a few posts back. Happy with how this one turned out! I’ve got a few more (different shapes) snaking their way through the process. 🎨

This whole thread is slap full of recommendations - definitely checking several out, figured I’d share too!
The 13 year old has just introduced me to the OverSimplified YouTube history channel.

Absolute genius.

Here’s a short clip from its episode on the Russian Revolution

And the ones on the Punic Wars are just as good for the more ancient minded

I didn’t watch the game, but I did go back to watch the halftime show and 🔥 that was sheer ART.

This is exactly what it’s all about! It’s not about talent or monetisation at the end of the day, it’s about the joy of creating. Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now. 💕
I bought myself a set of colored pencils and a sketchbook. Zero talent for visual art but wow this is instantly one of the most calming things I have for myself

A slipcast, hand painted mug I made several years ago - I have no idea where it’s gone but at least I have a photo of it. Maybe I should make another!

It feels strange to be posting about art with everything going on, you know? Bear with me.

Here’s a small paint palette in progress, heading into bisque soon. 🤚🏻 I’m tempted to keep this one!
