This is rich. Connie Chan says she “built real affordable housing, not the Sacramento version that destroys our neighborhoods.”

She points to new affordable housing on Geary: housing that she didn’t build but that *was* built using “Sacramento version” housing laws & $52M in state funds. 🧵

Thank you and congratulations to every Democrat in the United States who ran for office, defended your seat, knocked on doors, made phone calls, donated, talked to your friends and family, or voted.

Last night showed me that we can win our country back.

My god this is for real one of the most incredible speeches I’ve ever seen by an elected US politician: ‘And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is to dismantle the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.’
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

AOC: We have a future to fight for, and we're either going to do that together or you're going to be left behind. It's not about Progressive. It's not moderate, it's not liberal. This is about do you understand the assignment of fighting fascism right now? And the assignment is you come together…

Every official with a heart & brain says they have a plan to protect our country from Trump. There's nobody I believe more on this than Scott Wiener. He's our most effective legislator on a huge range of difficult issues, and doesn't flinch in the face of fierce opposition and even personal threats.

Had a great time giving out #Yeson50 signs today at #NoKings in San Francisco. If we were the only people voting, it'd be a landslide. Unfortunately, there's parts of the state where Prop 50 will probably be under water so...

SAN FRANCISCO, GET YOUR BALLOTS IN! Please vote Yes on Prop 50!

California insulin!

This is how we could get single-payer healthcare in the U.S.--by showing how much cheaper things are when you leverage the purchasing power of the state instead of pitting us all against each other as individual buyers in open markets.

In shot across Big Pharma's bow, California will sell its own insulin
Delivery of the state-branded drug makes good on a longstanding promise by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

CS is banned in warfare by treaty - a treaty the US itself has actually signed (the Geneva Gas Protocol). Yet we continue to allow police to use it.

If it's beyond the pale when used by militaries against other militaries, it should clearly be banned from use against civilians.

I just approved major pieces of legislation to keep building more affordable housing.

Whether it's turning empty office buildings into residential spaces or building more homes near public transportation, we're doing all we can to lower the price to realize the California Dream.

This gives me hope. That Calif can get serious about climate. That young people and new immigrants to Calif might have same privileges I did. That we can make transit work. And that we transit advocates can learn from this phenomenal work by housing activists
[VICTORY ALERT] Governor Newsom has signed SB 79, which will make it legal to build multi-family housing near high quality transit!

SO excited that Gov. Newsom signed SB 79 into law today--thank you, Governor!

This bill from Senator Wiener will help California become more affordable, prosperous, and environmentally sustainable by allowing denser housing near transit.

There's a week left for the Governor to sign bills. Phone lines open at 9am on Monday, make those calls to ask him to sign SB 79 to bring more housing near transit in California. In the meantime you can also send a message at www.gov.ca.gov/contact/
Update: had a friend just call and said there was zero wait time to talk to a live person and the whole call only took 30 seconds.

Call 916-445-2841 NOW to support SB79 and building more housing near transit
one little thing you can do to make a difference this Friday is calling @gavinnewsom.bsky.social and telling him to vote yes on SB79

916-445-2841 is his number, call now or use the link below

We are not out of the woods on SB 79.

Los Angeles NIMBYs have lost their minds over the prospect of more homes being built near taxpayer-funded transit stations.

Sadly, the Governor might be listening to them.

Please make the call: cayimby.org/call-sb-79/

Joel did the right thing, following the evidence and his convictions in supporting the creation of the park. And he's doing the right thing by supporting the creation of desperately-needed (and state-mandated) housing in our city.
