A section of cycle path on the Purple Pedalway had become badly overgrown. We asked Norfolk County Council to clear it but they only did half a job, so we spent two hours yesterday clearing back the vegetation properly.

It was hard work but satisfying. We shouldn’t need to do this.

"Councillors estimate the cost of providing free car parks to be around £10 - £15 [per household per year]: equivalent to a ten per cent increase in council tax."

- I find this story interesting mostly because it's rare that the true cost of free parking sees the light of day.
Ever wondered what it costs to provide free parking?

Thetford Town Council have decided to keep all car parks at an increase of £10-15 per year for every council tax payer in the town.

I know its just a sign, but this increases public awareness which in turn will lead to more reporting of offences, which will lead to pressure on senior officers to do more enforcement.

So I think this is a good thing and would welcome them here in Norwich.

The fact that people are allowed to store their cars in the street is really weird - after all, a car is an individual's own private property and their responsibility. I can't think of a single other item you can store in public in this way.

Perhaps @heidialexander.bsky.social can get a slightly bigger budget and we can just get on with it.

Good to see the vegetation on the Dereham Road cycle track finally cut back. They've done a good job in clearing the vegetation well back from the path edge - by at least a metre - and have then cleared away the overgrown grass back to the original edge of the path.

The green cross code is the most disastrous public information campaign in history. It has made generations believe that pedestrians are responsible for avoiding crashes. Crashes are actually the responsibility of the operators of the massive motorised lumps of metal.

While the Internet has had an impact, the main cause of the death of high streets is the out-of-town retail park. Any council which gave planning permission to a retail park only has themselves to blame for the destruction of their city centre.

This driver has caused one death and one serious injury in ten years, in both cases due to wildly incompetent driving.

He'll be allowed back on the road next year.

We need to just take some people off the road permanently.
