One thing that I find in my research on nursing homes is that people are sometimes reluctant to believe accounts of horrible conditions, because they don’t want them to be true.

And I’m wondering about a similar dynamic as people read horrible quotes from someone being held up as a hero.

I will never understand how American elites managed to convince themselves that uncivil debate — not fascism, not impunity and not widespread indifference to facts — is the defining problem of our time.

I've been looking into job search scams for my newsletter and this feels like as good a time as any to plug the FTC's website if you feel like you might be getting scammed!

Job scammers are looking to hire you
Scammers are always “hiring” but don’t actually want to employ you. Instead, they want your money, personal information, or both. Here’s how to spot and avoid a job scam.

Trans people make up 1-3% of American society depending on definitions (nonbinary, trans, etc).

That is enough to swing multiple close swing state elections.

Democrats should not nominate an anti-trans Democrat.
If there's one thing that getting yelled at all day for saying that I will not vote for Gavin Newsom in a hypothetical 2028 election has made me more sure of... it's that I will not be voting for Gavin Newsom (or any other politician who pushes anti-trans nonsense) in 2028 or any other year.

As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)

Because of systematic racism and inequities in the labor market, cracks in the strength of the overall economy always show up for Black workers first. "Black women show up as a canary in the coal mine, giving a picture of what may happen to everyone else later” @chabeli.bsky.social @19thnews.org
Black women’s unemployment is rising. Economists say it’s a warning sign.

we have to let everyone grieve and feel this shit however their own nervous system needs. this is gonna be a long fight
It’s okay to be sad right now guys fuck stop telling ppl not to despair and get back to work, this is why so many ppl are in a state of apathy and dissociation cuz they don’t even have space from movement leaders to feel how they feel
