This has really been the calculus for most Republican policies regarding social safety net programs since Reagan. The people that actually study this stuff long term have concluded multiple times that government social spending saves us tons of money we'd spend reacting to poverty and crime longterm

It's just one poll but in a new Gallup poll Trump is 45-51 (-6) approve/disapprove, and -12 on the economy.
