The GOP — a fraction of its Congresspeople, not even half — could make *ALL THIS* stop by impeaching and removing him

Simple majority in the House would require 3 — 3! — GOP votes w all Dems

2/3 in Senate would required 20 Senators out of 53 to vote with Dems, not even 40%.

They own all of it

and judge pan gets at what i was gesturing towards earlier today: that this idea that the purpose of the executive branch is to effectuate the political agenda of the president is extra-constitutional. it has no basis in the text or the history for that matter!

Yes but only when the president is a Republican.

Biden couldn’t even forgive some student loans, which power was within the statute as written.
the elevation of “separation of powers” as the paramount value of the constitution is just rhetorical justification for presidential dictatorship, since that is what you have when the legislative branch cannot constrain the exercise of executive power through law.
In her dissent, Judge Pan says the emerging view of executive power by Trump and his backers in the courts "concentrates excessive power in the President and thus paves the way to autocracy." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Wow. Not sure I have words for this
I assumed the NSS would just ignore/deprioritize Europe (It did that on defense/NATO).

But the actual message was: Europe matters to us, we must save it from itself, the EU and its wokeness. Thus, the USG is going all in on foreign interference to help the far-right win a civilizational war.

The 6 conservative Justices think we’re on the eve of an election that will take place 11 months from now. Utterly bankrupt of all intellectual integrity
In the weeds a bit but interesting that the court does not cite the Purcell precedent (barring meddling in election law too close to an election), as @rickhasen.bsky.social points out, but nevertheless seems to invoke it while citing a different case (left).

Agree with this thread. Worth reading in full.

25 years ago John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and AC Barrett all worked on GWBush's 2000 Florida recount team. What they're doing now is, if anything, more nakedly partisan.

Fire-breathing dissent by Kagan, with Sotomayor and Jackson.
They're not even trying to appear nonpartisan anymore.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.

Never forget John Roberts was an advisor to W in Bush v Gore. He’s been on a multi-decade quest to rig the system for the GOP.
SCOTUS conservative justices upholding Texas gerrymander is yet another example of how Roberts court has greenlit the many undemocratic schemes of Trump and his party

They’ve now ruled for Trump and his allies in 90 percent of shadow docket opinions www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The Supreme Court just handed Texas Republicans at least 2 more House seats & possibly up to 5 despite the state GOP explicitly justifying their remap based on an unconstitutional use of race in redistricting.

Unsurprising from this court, and it's a bad sign for the upcoming Voting Rights Act case
BREAKING: Supreme Court sides with Texas Republicans in fight over congressional map. The new gerrymandered map will be used in the 2026 midterms. The vote is 6–3, with the Republican appointees siding with Texas.

This bloodthirsty, crazed assessment from Sen. Tom Cotton trying to excuse war crimes pairs nicely with all the denunciation of people who took issue with Cotton calling for no quarter against BLM protesters in 2020.
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."
