A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

My favourite hotel on earth (at least in Montreal). It is really a brutalist low rise motor hotel high a top of a concrete plinth. It remains gorgeous & perfect 60 years later. Heaven.

Executives from a number of SDF recipient organizations quickly donated money back to the PC Party.

“The fact that this government is operating a circular economy of donations for taxpayer dollars – our dollars – that are then donated back again to the government is frankly gobsmacking."

I spoke many times with Catherine McKenna about the failure of the RCMP/Parliamentary Security to address rising levels of threat.
Homes were outfitted with security cameras but little was done to track online threats.
Good people gave up on serving the public.

Alberta announced today the COVID-19 vaccine this fall will cost us $100 per dose.

So for my family of four, that'll be $400.

Alternatively, we could spend $400 on an overnight trip to Golden or Fernie, B.C., get immunized for free, and make a little mountain vacation out of it.

Yes, this is *that* Fort McMurray. If you haven't read @johnvaillant.bsky.social's "Fire Weather", you should remedy that immediately. The story of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire is horrifying and compelling.
“Visibility hovered around or below 1 km in Fort McMurray, Alberta for most of the day Sunday, with the airport reporting exceptionally low visibility of just 200 metres at 5:00 p.m. local time.” The AQI hit 2242: 10x higher than the “hazardous” level. www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weat...

Thank you for welcoming this American, Canada. I just found out I’m eligible to apply for my Canadian citizenship and I’m so excited to officially be Canadian! This country is my true home ❤️🤍❤️
Canada: Walk away from negotiations. Don't retaliate. Diversify. Find new markets. Buy European military equipment. Reinstate the digital services tax. Let Americans pay more for the things they want from us. Keep up the public boycott. Welcome American refugee talent. Be Canadian. #cdnpoli #USpoli

This weekend I wrote about Doug Ford’s plan to sell off a large chunk of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Exactly the opposite of what should be happening: parkland expansion.
Shawn Micallef: Doug Ford’s plan to sell off chunks of this popular beach threatens something we should hold dear
If Doug Ford wanted to create a real legacy, he’d start an aggressive expansion of public parkland in Ontario to keep up with its massive population.
