Kavanaugh's dissent in the #SCOTUS decision striking down Trump's tariffs as illegal is partially based on the idea that it is a mess to try to refund tariffs. That's like saying you have to let a bank robber go because it's too difficult to get him to pay back the money he stole. #USpoli #cdnpoli

In a surprise decision, the US Supreme Court upholds the law. #USpoli #cdnpoli #USSC #SCOTUS
BOOM from SCOTUS:

"IEEPA does not authorize the President to impose tariffs."

It appears to be a 6-3 decision authored by Roberts.

It's almost like reckless spending, no provincial sales tax, and basing your entire economy on a volatile, dying resource is not a good idea. #ableg #cdnpoli
Recently, UCP government advertised that “Alberta is open for business”, wanting to grow Alberta’s population to 10 million by 2030.

Now, influx on new Canadians is blamed for overcrowded hospitals, schools, and deficit.

In reality, mismanagement is the culprit, not immigrants.

Conservatives have held provincial power in Alberta since 1971 except for 4 years. They have consistently sent conservative MPs to Ottawa and ran the federal government for a decade under Harper. But somehow they're not the cause of all Alberta's problems... #ableg #cdnpoli

In 2024, Danielle Smith wrote a letter to Justin Trudeau to complain that they didn't get *more* immigrants than their planned allotment. (She also wanted more Ukrainians specifically, and we all know why).

None of Smith's referendum questions are likely to result in actual policy change.

Because they require constitutional amendments (federal veto) or are plainly unconstitutional.

Assuming "yes" votes carry, what then?

Kenney's equalization referendum didn't soothe separatists. It emboldened them.

"Study after study from very credible organizations say oil demand in #China is going to fall from roughly 17 million barrels a day to either between 5 or 7 million barrels by 2050, so Canada would be building a 1 million barrel a day pipeline to a market that is basically going to disappear."
