A timely reminder that the definition of the word ‘farage’ is the liquid found at the bottom of a waste bin or container.

And yes you can get your public service announcement T Towel at www.markthomasinfo.co.uk/store/

It's revealing about taboos around racism that the visceral bullying racism of schoolboy Farage cuts through while the much more consequential thinly veiled racism of adult Farage doesn't. Many people need that veil and flinch when it's removed. You can advocate racist policies but not say the words

Not to be overly obvious here, but many people seeking asylum need phones to keep in touch with loved ones, access crucial information etc. Having a phone isn't a "luxury item" anymore. It is a necessity for many people. Taking it away has serious implications.

Your seasonal reminder that Quality Street chocolates are a cash-in on a hit play by J M Barrie, and used to feature the characters on the box. So a bit like people in 2100 buying 2.22 A Ghost Story chocolates every Christmas with Lily Allen on the tin.

You will be shocked to discover after reading these stories that while Rachel Reeves claimed to have been the "British girls under-14 [chess] champion" she was in reality merely the "Under 14s British Women’s Chess Association (BWCA) Girls" Champion.

This is getting utterly ridiculous now

Something new. A #postcardadventcalendar. Stick with me for some nicely odd vintage images for the month, and you may end up with an expression like our friend in a deckchair in front of painted sea. Hold tight. The thread starts today:

Labour isn't opening safe routes as Mahmood claims. Those laid out effectively already exist, and her proposals limit them more than they currently are.

What Labour has done though is close and curtail what safe routes there actually are for refugees. #r4today

Around 26,000 of the neediest people in County Durham will have to start paying council tax next year...

About 2,400 others who already pay some council tax will lose part of their rebate.

Women and the disabled will be disproportionately affected.

Not quite what Reform UK had promised.
Council tax shock for thousands of Durham’s poorest – thanks to Reform UK
