For months, I have received dozens emails from a mailing list managed by Campaign Nucleus, the company of longtime Donald Trump advisor Brad Parscale, encouraging people to invest in gold. Now, Trump's actions have spurred a spike in gold future prices.

republicans are complaining about the atlantic, not the substance of the story because theyve spent the last 6 decades being rewarded for just this sort of thing (beating on the media). the msm generally goes along with it.

With Trump’s regime deleting records, DOGE operating with no oversight, and the National Archives being expunged, WIRED removing paywalls on FOIA-based journalism is a huge win for information access. Public records are more important now than ever before. A major win for the American people.

Often the New York Times writes tough stories but puts soft headlines on them. This is a good example. Reporter Shawn McCreesh states clearly that Trump is acting like a dictator. But the headline’s tone is credulous, as if Trump’s ridiculous autopen claim might be valid.

Again, this should be the end of it, & the fact that we’re tolerating it is both a massive national security crisis & a massive constitutional crisis. Maybe nothing ever mattered, but I don’t think that’s actually true, & one wonders why we are so deeply unserious now.

We moved troops and embassy staff out of Ukraine before Russia attacked in 2022. Having Americans there does nothing to deter Putin. Most of the rare earth minerals are in the east, which Russia controls. The ceasefire is a ploy to allow Russia a breather. They're using donkeys for resupply FFS.

Just heard from a friend who is a true hero veteran. His company was destroyed in 30 days by the VA when they canceled 5 contracts without notice. 23 Americans mostly veterans out of work and a veteran owned small business destroyed. For nothing. They're dismantling the VA not "reforming" it.

This is very true, but it is also complicated by the fact that they exist in a universe that *reinforces* the nonsense they believe. They get snookered easily — and then everyone they trust tells them they're right!
Reminder: Trump is not only a mark (ask Putin), but surrounded by weak-minded fools who are frequently taken in by the most obvious misinformation and propaganda - Musk, Patel, Bongino, RFK, Hegseth, Gabbard... the list is endless

This sort of democratic backsliding, where Republicans seek to overturn the effect of an election by reallocating powers away from positions they have lost, has become almost routine now. But it should remain shocking.
Heads up:

North Carolina Republicans just voted to strip the state's incoming Democratic governor and attorney general of key powers — passing a sweeping bill before the GOP most likely loses its veto-proof supermajority in the Legislature next year.

This is one reason it's important to remember that Trump won bc of a delivery problem but also bc of a very successful propaganda effort.
The right-leaning people I’ve talked to who don’t follow politics closely aren’t processing this like we are (or online MAGA). They’re at ease, thinking their financial problems will improve and things will revert to pre-COVID. Trump has the same delivery problem that just defeated Biden/Harris.
