It's been fun watching @buttondown.com archive design updates in real time today. Question for developers: If dark mode will be the new archives default, will you enable authors to pick responsive tint colors so content is equally accessible on email (white bkgrnd) and archives (black bkgrnd)?

Appeasing sociopathic narcissists DOES👏NOT👏WORK.
The White House’s new anti-media website includes denunciations of:

-ABC, which bribed the president
-CBS, which bribed the president and moved away from fact-based journalism trying to appeal to him and his fans
-WaPo, which spiked a Harris endorsement and tilts coverage in Trump’s favor

Fools.

It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

It's almost like making the effort to learn a thing teaches you more about it than just asking the closest idiot to tell you what they think about the subject and copying that down
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Social media is Bad, but is it worse to disengage altogether? I truly don't know. I wrote about it anyway.

To give: Baby shoes, heavily worn. Soles are peeling and laces are missing from one but maybe somebody could fix them up and use them? Pickup only.

I’ve seen a few folks go for the “if you simply must watch that new Harry Potter show just pirate it” and sorry. No. Just no. Just don’t watch it. At all. Ever. Break free of it. It’s time. You’ll be ok. I promise. I know it mattered to you as a kid. Find new things, it’s healthier. Just move on.

We recognize exurban sprawl as the built environment of alienation—anti-social infrastructure that invites paranoid, rightwing extremism.

AI and social media are becoming the exurbs in our pockets—they fracture us, alienate us, and disconnect us: the distributed infrastructure of fascism.

As billionaires surrender to Trumpism for profit, Gov. Polis’s veto of the Worker Protection Act—which would’ve made it easier to unionize—looks worse by the day. The best tool we have left to save this country is working people coming together. #copolitics
