A moka pot is $15. Get fine ground coffee, gently pack the grounds into the filter, fill the bottom with water, screw on tight, and put on the stove.

While that's going, heat milk in the microwave then use a $10 frother on it.

Syrups are $5 for a giant bottle.

DO NOT CROSS THE PICKET LINE.

The IRS is reportedly not offering its Direct File program next year. Here’s a look back at how TurboTax owner Intuit spent two decades fighting to prevent Americans from filing their taxes online for free:

(Published 2019)
Inside TurboTax’s 20-Year Fight to Stop Americans From Filing Their Taxes for Free
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise.

not gonna lie, there were *so many SSN leakages* in the last month that I could not keep up with which one to be outraged about. So.. here you go, just assume your data has been compromised, and take concrete steps to keep yourself safe!
Another Social Security leak? Shocking… not really. 😑 The truth: it doesn't matter who leaked it. What matters is locking down your SSN. This week's issue shows you how to do it once and stay covered.
Who Leaked Your SSN This Time?
Spoiler: it doesn’t matter. Your data’s already out there. Here’s how to freeze, lock, and protect your number.

As always, Matt weighs in with balance and thoughtfulness. But he's right; this escalation race for eyeballs is going to result in people not taking warnings seriously.
We're currently in a bit of a Wild West of weather communication. And the correct response to it remains somewhat elusive. My thoughts on how out of control it's gotten, the Ryan Hall Y'all's of the world, and the SPC.
As severe weather season ramps up, the communication strategy across meteorology is as messy as ever
At least NOAA's Storm Prediction Center remains the gold standard

Plenty of meteorologists have commented on the flooding in TX. @mattlanza.bsky.social is the one who put the arguments against cutting NOAA and NWS right up front and center, rather than waaaaaaay at the bottom. And this is why I always, always read his forecasts first.
The latest on TS Chantal today, but more importantly, we take a deep dive into the causes and forecasts leading up to the horrific flooding tragedy in Texas. A lot to unpack today. open.substack.com/pub/theeyewa...

In brief: Invest 92L became Tropical Depression 3 yesterday and is now Tropical Storm Chantal.

Meredith has always been a G, but it's still exceptionally weird and very refreshing hearing from a tech exec who can see through all of this AI bullshit for what it is at its foundation: a backdoor surveillance tool.

Oh look! Actual meteorologists discussing how models change... reminding us that science is a verb.
Question: Did the European operational model change how it handles sea breeze convection? Because this "exploding" diurnal activity it has been showing for a few days is bizarre.

Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville:
“Everybody should be concerned about bad weather. Not a whole lot you can do about it other than possibly a little bit of early warning...we’ll have to wait and see if any of these cuts affect any of that…we’ll wait to get a report on it. I mean, that’s all we can do.”
