Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

When I was walking to Aldi, a couple of cyclists sped past going north on Sheridan, blowing on their ICE whistles and presumably in hot pursuit of some terrorists. I have never appreciated a cyclist's ability to be a complete road menace more than I do in this moment.

Every day at noon, no matter how busy, Johny Merida Aguilar left his construction job and hurried to his 5-year-old son's school to feed him. His son has brain cancer and generally only accepts food from his father.

Merida Aguilar was arrested by ICE in September and faces deportation to Bolivia.
He was caring for his 5-year-old son with brain cancer. Then he was detained by ICE.

The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves
Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

I was born and raised in CAs Central Valley and I'm voting #YesOnProp50. Farm workers and people of color are suffering under this administration's racial profiling. Prop 50 gives us the opportunity to fight back on the power grab that TX Republicans and Trump are attempting.
